1 X Hakko Dial Type Temperature Limiting Soldering Iron Fx600

Great soldering iron! hot in less than 30 sec. I have the big brother fx88d and this does everything it does just less temperature control but 3 times cheaper I put on the 5.2 mm chisel tip and it's perfect for anything RC related, these tips literally last for years. This thing will go all the way to 1000F! the 460 setting is 860F & and it's perfect for anything RC related handles 12 and 10 gauge motor wires with ease. I highly recommend this soldering iron for 10 dollars more than a Weller it's 10 times better in every way!

I had a cheap radioshack soldering iron I kept in my electrical kit. It was terrible. No temp control, bad tip, and i always got bad results. So I decided I would get a new iron, that was more capable. I looked around at all the cheap chinese options, and then there's weller brand. I didn't know about Hakko, a famous japanese brand. I didn't want a whole integrated stand like the weller, I just wanted something capable that I could toss into my toolbox. This is the one! This iron was not expensive, is temp-controlled, which you reall NEED, especially for thick items that need more heat. I learned that the HAKKO tips are the defacto standard, and I bought a couple of extra tips. A top buy.

This Hakko soldering iron is perfect for my intended use of working on tightly packed soldering jobs, especially surface mount. Whether repairing surface mount boards or attaching SMT parts to breakout boards, the sharply pointed tips available for this iron are great. There are many Hakko and other brand tips available on Amazon. The iron has a light that is lit during heating. It starts out steady and then blinks as it is maintaining the setpoint temperature. When the dial is set at a desired temperature, solder melts quickly at the specified alloy melting point even at the end of a needle tip (less than 1mm). Since it is made for use in Japan, it is designed to operate on their standard power of 100 VAC, rather than US standard 120 VAC. There is a small plastic wrench supplied to access an adjustment under the dial to compensate for the higher voltage. A pictorial is supplied, but unfortunately all information and instructions are in Japanese text. I already had a variable voltage AC transformer, so I will just operate at 100 VAC.

I have used many lower price irons and some mid price irons for the occasional electronic project and have always been disappointed. They never got hot enough, the tips were hard to find, and they never felt good to use. I needed an iron that got hotter and could maintain heat so that I could solder sections of copper plate and thick wire for a project. This iron worked great! It heats up incredibly quickly and gets very hot. No problem heating up large sections of material. The indicator shows when it is up to you're desired temp which is very handy. The build quality is fantastic. The plastic used seems to be a thick nylon and is very sturdy. The cord is very nice, it's not too heavy and easily flexes so it is far less likely to pull the iron around with it's weight. Even the insulation on the cord has a nice feel to it. The temp dial has a firm click and smooth motion. Overall the tool is simply pleasant to use. I have no complaints. The price is worth it and this will likely be the last iron I buy for a long time.

After 6 months of occasional hobby use it died on me. Doesn't heat at all. When I opened it, everything looks normal but the heater has an internal disconnection. Non fixable. 6 months is way too short for a solder iron lifetime.

This is much better than iron I already have. It’s light weight, making it easier to work with soldering and love the temperature control. My other iron was always too hot. This stays at temp I set. My soldering is much easier!

It's high quality soldering iron with adjustable temp. If you solder with this after working with cheap soldering irons, you will definitely see the difference. Highly recommend!

Heats up really quickly with almost all temperatures and stays there fine. Tip is fair quality that handles solder fine without degradation. But if you have to change the temperature then you better pray you kept track of the included knob that slots into the dial. The strap keeping it to the iron doesn't stay on the cord like it's suggested to do and is a pain to use. I have no idea why they couldn't have just made a permanently installed dial instead.

I bought this soldering iron and I plugged it into the socket outlet which burnt out instantly. Unfortunately, nothing mentioned in the specifications regarding the voltage. It is only mentioned on the soldering iron itself. Despite that “Hakoo” is very good soldering iron brand, I put one star for the following reasons: 1. Noting mentioned in the specifications about the supply voltage. 2. I considered that all imported electrical items to UAE should be 220VAC.

I work as an aircraft component technician and Hakko is my new go to soldering iron after Weller went downhill in quality. This Hakko model is a fantastic soldering iron that is well made, quickly heats up to the desired heat setting and maintains it while working. This is something that is quite important when soldering so you can pick a desired heat setting so you won't over heat what you're working on. This is the Japanese version of the Hakko FX600 soldering iron which has a voltage rating of 100 volts, 50/60hz but will work in countries where the volage is 120 volts 60hz. There is a version of the Hakko FX600 which has a three prong cable(has grounding pin) but the internals are exactly the same. Based on reviews seen, the three pronged version is twice the price with a stiffer cable that a few individuals have complained to be an annoyance and a safety issue causing the iron to move around the work bench after placing it down or on a stand. The heating element quickly transfers heat inside the barrel into the tip. This is something of a marvel compared to other designs that are much less effective and efficient. You can change the tips by loosening the nut on the barrel and pulling out the tip replacing it with another. Just remember for this model FX600, the tips have to be the 18mm versions and not the 19mm which is for a similar looking Hakko soldering iron (which has a higher heating range). There is also more heating tip options for the Hakko FX600 versus the Hakko FX601. The FX600 is the iron you want to use for most soldering jobs. The Hakko FX601 is mainly for stained glass window fame soldering or more for heavier jobs that require a bit more heat. The cable on this soldering iron is quite flexible and important so that you aren't fighting against the cable but also so the iron doesn't start moving around on you workbench. Overall, I'm impressed with this model and as such purchased a few to have around.
