Simple and Effective - Does the Job.
Simple but effective and solidly constructed. You really want to apply some tension to the cable as you wind it in, which means you have to put your foot on the frame and feed the cable through your hand as you wind in. If you don't, the cable will go onto the reel in a loose mess. In a way, that's a design deficiency i.e. you could either have a footplate to hold the reel steady or have a cable guide on the base (as some other models have). Also, bear in mind, that with this type of storage reel and when working with power tools with short power leads, you are going to have to carry the reel close to the work location. If you are moving around a lot, it may be easier to work with a free-standing extension cable. Other types of cable storage put the reel by the outlet which can be more convenient, although you then need an adapter to power multiple tools.

Mult-functional and a good value.
I have purchased 4 of these as I now have dedicated heavy duty all weather extension cords for camping, electric lawn equipment, power tools, and one for just in case. They have held up well and I have been able to put 50' of 12 gauge cord with still some room left. It has held up to being left out in -30F weather for days (it powers my block heater) and starts my snow thrower. It also is great for camping when I want to run my ac/dc fridge and electronic toys, fans, and lights.I wish the extension cord would wind up easier, but that is not keeping me from buying another one if I need it.

Great value, needs some improvement.
Used it to hold 100' 12 gauge extension cord. Held it well and has strong construction considering the low price. One very irritating problem is that the reel turns too easily on its axle, so when you start unrolling the cord the reel spins really quickly and freely, continuing to spin after the desired cordage is pulled, dumping out cord too fast and causing the cord to unravel from the reel. The cord tends to unravel from the reel even when just sitting. There needs to be some resistance or braking of the reel spin like in a fishing reel. I plan to take it apart and see if I can fix this design flaw. Some thick/heavy grease might work. The only other problem is that the handle is off center from the base, so when you set it down it doesn't set properly and you have to take the time to angle it carefully down on both legs to keep it from falling over.

Perfect for Powering Things Like an Electric Snowblower or Lawn Mower if You Use This Fix!
I just ordered my second one of these, so yeah, it's awesome. :~)I am using them to coil the crazy-long extension cords (100 foot and 50 foot) that I have for my electric snowblower (I have this snow blower - or "snow thrower" as they call it - and I LOVE it! Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower ).Now, I have to say that, as other reviews have noted, the configuration of this reel, in terms of the on-board power outlets, can be confounding - it all depends on what you want to use it for. If your plan is to use the spool to coil the extension cord that you're going to use to plug into your wall outlet, *to power the spool*, because you'll be unwinding the cord, and then using the spool as a portable set of outlets, then the spool configuration makes perfect sense just as it is. You plug the cord into the wall outlet, unwind the spool, and bring it out to wherever you need power.BUT, if you are wanting to use the spool to coil up an extension cord that you are going to use *to power something*, like an electric snow blower, then you need to apply a $5 fix to make it work well for that.To do that, if you follow the directions provided in the review posted by another customer which starts with "Advice with pictures on how to use this efficiently...", you will be very happy. (I also explain it below, but without pictures.) It may not make sense to you until you actually do it, but basically here's the deal:On the inside of the spool is a male plug, for you to provide power *to the spool* - that is the power that drives the four outlets on the outside of the spool. This make sense if you are connecting that internal plug to the female end of an extension cord that you are plugging into your wall outlet (to provide power to the spool's 4 outlets on the side). But it doesn't make sense if you are planning to use the spool to hold an extension cord that you want to connect to a snow blower (or something else). In that case, you *still need to use another cord to provide power to the spool*.SO, order one of these: Monoprice 105296 1-Feet Extension Cord . This is one of those 1-foot extension cords pictured in and mentioned in that other review. You will use this to connect to the internal male plug, to extend it out past the rim of the spool, so you can easily access it. You will use *this* to provide the power to your spool with *another* extension cord - *not* the extension cord you are going to wind onto your spool (because you are going to use that extension cord to provide power to your snow blower or whatever). Now, wind the spool-to-snowblower extension cord onto the spool - do *not* plug it into anything - just wind it onto the spool.Use whatever *other* extension cord you want to bring power from your wall outlet to the spool, by connecting it to the other (sticking out) end of the 1-foot cable. Now, when you want to power up the cord on the spool, you just plug it into one of the 4 side outlets that are on the spool (see, it is getting its power through the spool, from the cord that is connected to the wall outlet). And of course the other (female) end of the extension cord that is on the spool gets connected to the snow blower or whatever. This actually is much more complicated to explain than to do! But it really does work!

Does not really fit 100ft of 14 gauge cord.
Barely holds my 100ft 14 gauge extension cord. The plastic on the sides needs to be about an inch longer in order to hold 100ft of 14 gauge cord like it states in the description. I wound it as tight as I could get it and some of the cord still falls off the sides (see photos). The outlets all work great but this is more suited for a smaller gauge cord or a shorter 14 gauge extension cord.

Great Value
This has worked great for me so far. I know that I am using a longer, heavier gauge cord that intended, so I decided not to dock a star for the few shortcoming I am experiencing.Pros:-Can handle a 100 ft 12-gauge cord.-Very light and easy to lift/move, even with an over-sized extension cord.-Multiple outlets!Cons:-For some reason, it was difficult to plug the extension cord into the base of the spool. Perhaps the angle is just bad or the prongs were bent a little out of shape, but it took some 'persuading' to get it connected.-The side guards for the spool are really soft/flexible plastic. Perhaps this is intended, so it doesn't break (it is almost certainly going to be in a situation where it could be dropped/fall some day given the nature the product). However, this makes it difficult to roll up heavy gauge (12 in my case) cords, since the sides aren't strong enough to guide the cord. The sides just flex and then a couple of loops of cable pop off. I had to carefully guide the cord with one hand, while spinning it with the other, and using both feet to step on the base to keep it from moving around. Once I got 20-30 feet wound up, there seemed to be enough weight to take my feet off the base, but I still had to be careful to guide the cord to keep it from popping off the side while winding it up.

Simple to use and sturdy
I think our extension cord is 100 ft. So pretty heavy. When the cord is all wrapped up in this storage reel, it's still very sturdy and convenient to pickup and carry. Highly recommended.

Great
I love it, cheap and works very well. Just you have to consider the length of your cable, for the one I have is perfect but for a longer one will need to be a bigger wheel.

Good buy
If you’re impatient like me the cord can get tangled and off the reel when you roll it up too quick. But otherwise it’s been a very convenient and well build product
