This is a wonderful book, however I wasn't really looking for recipes, just plans on various types and sizes...so a bit disappointed

"Non-basement methods" use electricity.
I was very excited to see this book's description. We have in recent years begun growing many of our own vegetables and have explored traditional means of preserving the food we grow, including canning and dehydrating. Many of the folks living in our valley live off-grid and many more are trying to use less electricity. We have wanted root cellars to help us preserve the harvest, but with our very high ground water (no basements!), we have been unsuccessful. Then I saw in the review for this book, which promised "never-before-seen models for apartment and condo dwellers and home owners without a basement." Perfect, I thought, and attempted to research the author and his methods prior to ordering the book. Finding nothing, I went ahead and ordered. When the book came, I discovered the author's non-basement models use electricity. I already have a fridge! There are tons of plans for root cellars on the web and in other books. What made this book unique was its promise of models for home owners without a basement. I think many folks who buy this book will be disappointed to find out that the "new model" root cellar is just a version of what they already have in the bottom of their refrigerator.

A step in the right direction
I have been an organic gardener since I was 15. My parents never had a root cellar so I learned how to can. I have read all the Dick Raymond books I can get my hands on and he talks at length about having a well constructed root cellar. This book takes the root cellar into the 21st century and takes the reader step by step through the process of making a room under your house, into the side of a hill or inside the refrigerator section of a truck into a place to store the fruits and vegetables in. As the country gets farther from her roots into a grocery store full of irradiated, sprayed, hormone laded food, we need to get back to growing and storing our own food.

Root Cellar Book
Very complete. This was a gift for my wife as we are looking into more self sufficient living and getting back to the land. My wife went through it and it adds to what we had but, even as a stand alone book, she felt it was a very good resource. We are looking forward to creating an underground root cellar on the property as well as setting up our storage in the basement and this is a very helpful resource.

What you need to know about a Root Cellar.
Very well put together. Very informative. Don't waste your time on the cheap ones on this matter, SHTF ROOT CELLAR by Kelli Brooks, sold in the same search for this book, NOT even close. This book is what you're looking for the title "The Complete Root Cellar Book" IS TRUE.

The Complete Root Cellar Book
Very good - interesting, lots of topics - building plans and how-to details, logistics and trouble-shooting, and recipes. It's fun to have a book that shows me how to get from start to finish. I love the information on how to get the best use out of your food - what keeps the longest; how to store things properly, even how to make a fruit-fly trap to keep the bugs out of your fruit bowl.

Good construction info and lots of recipes
Good info and diagrams for those building a root cellar from scratch on in a corner of the basement- tho' the latter I found a little over the top.Nice recipes and lots of them but I do like pics in my recipe books to help get my imagination juices flowing!

I was looking for alternative for an economic outside root ...
I was looking for alternative for an economic outside root cellar, turns out there are not much in this book, and none that doesn't involve digging(being built on the side of a rock mountain kinda prevent any digging, unless you do it with dynamite...) Half the book is recipes, which I truly don't care for. I got plenty already.
