Precision 5154 Wall Thermometer

No problem

I needed one for my room because the central heat and air duct was destroyed to my bedroom by my nieces cats when they got under the house and now my room is an absolute furnace inside in the hot weather and I kept saying that it was too hot in there for me to stand it so I bought an old faithful thermometer instead of spending all that money for these new expensive electronic ones. The last electronic one I bought lasted about 2 months if that and I am still not so sure if I ever actually got a correct temp. reading on that electronic one. It has not been as hot as usual for August here in NC but more hot days are coming and my new thermometer will read about 90 degrees by noon and has gone up to 98 degrees on a few days. That is just way too hot to sit in your bedroom. Just sitting at my desk on the computer with my shirt off when it is that hot, the sweat just rolls off of you. It is miserable so I had to buy a big 16 inch reversible window fan so I can pull the heat out and then pull fresh air in. I have to keep my bedroom door closed at all time because those cats will not only destroy everything but make a mess in the floor, not using the litter box and I just cannot have that, I draw the line there and the cats have already destroyed the rest of the house. Anyway, you can't go wrong with a simple mercury thermometer and this one is under $10 bucks and works just fine and I expect a long life out of it.

I mostly don't write many reviews. I mostly write positive ones, if I feel folks are being unfairly over the top with their negative reviews. In this case, I feel compelled to write a negative one. I purchased three of these because they're affordable. And I wanted a few for different locations in the house. Of the three that I purchased none were in working condition. The liquid in all but one was separated in the tube. The packaging claimed this to be a normal occurrence during shipping. It suggested to tap it downward and it would settle correctly. No matter the amount of tapping I did, it did not work. It remained separated. In the meantime, the one I thought was working, isn't. Even on that one the liquid has separated in a day or two. No product should have issues like this right at the outset. Especially when we're talking three. In my estimation, this is just a faulty product right from the manufacturer. Not worth getting. I'd recommend buying this type of product in a store where it can be determined if it's a working product or not.

At first I was upset that the thermometer was a fair bit smaller than I expected (only 7" tall total) -- for some reason there were only width and depth measurements in the Amazon writeup (and I think they were for the packaging, not the unit itself), but I took a chance. The marked measurement scale is only 4" long so you have to be within a foot or two to read it. Other than that, it's a nice clean design, okay to put in an outdoor location (it's all plastic and glass) and the markings are crisp and clear (if small) and its accuracy is good (checked against other thermometers I trust). After tucking it in a shady niche just outside my kitchen window it is providing me outdoor temperatures and I'm happy.

Mine didn't arrive damaged or separated and took 30 seconds to install. It comes with the correct size screw for the mounting hole so you just have to screw the screw in somewhere and hang the thermometer on it then tighten it down. It's as accurate as the digital thermometer on my thermostat and doesn't require calibration since it's mercury. Also seems like it should last for a long time as long as nothing hits it since there's nothing that will rust or bend. Worth what I paid for it, good buy.

Price good, effective within a degree or two despite difficulty reading. These are little plastic thermometers with a mercury (poisonous, hazardous material please research) inside. That’s fine. What’s not fine is the very thin glass which encases it and the VERY easily broken thermometer. I take full responsibility in breaking this, but ppl need to be warned to keep up high on it of reach of PETS AND CHILDREN. It breaks CRAZY EASILY. I barely put weight on it more of a lean and it broke. The mercury was mixed in with pine shavings with baby chicks. Please hang it high and well.

It arrived on time and in good shape thanks to good packaging. Seems accurate and is attractive on the wall.
