Do you have to do anything to the film after taking pictures & before scanning?

You have to process the film in a lab.

Will this work with a Canon 9000F Mark ll scanner?

If you were to adjust for the light leakage resulting from poor sealing on the scanner, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. The problem is that it wouldn’t allow for the scanner cover to properly close allowing external light to filter in. This product is designed to lie flat on a light table to allow for negative scanning with a camera

For best results holds the negative flat and in place ready for scanning. Use it with all modern flatbed scanners with a backlight unit.

is this better than what we get from a Scanner like Epson V500

No. And the tray didn't fit we'll in to my last scanner or my new one. It's a waste.
