classic book to understand the family dynamic....must read

I have a family member in recovery, and none of us know what to expect or how to think about the process. I found this book easy to understand, well-written, well-researched and in the end, HELPFUL. Not that it made me super-optimistic, but I very much find myself better prepared for the journey ahead.There is a repetitive nature to some of the information, but I was not bored.

Great book. I purchased this for a college class I was taking to get my addiction counseling certification. The book is very informative and has some great stories from first hand experience with alcoholism and it’s affects on everyone involved with an alcoholic. I would highly recommend this book for anybody interested in counseling or anyone dealing with alcoholism or an alcoholic.

This is a very good book that has a lot of good information for understanding what happens when the alcoholic stops drinking and the stages of recovery. I am a therapist that works at Life Management Counseling Center in Torrance CA, and I recommend this book to the family and coupleswho find themselves in this situation.

I will always love this author and her commitment to recovery principles. An excellent book for professionals working with struggling families. It clearly delineates the developmental milestones on the path to a happy joyous and free life!

If this will be a required read:The book is a little thick so it takes time to finish reading.The content is easy to read and understand.It follows stories from Therapy clients, while some may complain about this, it helps you apply the theories of family recovery into real life settings.
