Great Asset On My Alaska Trip
I took this book with me on my recent trip to Alaska and found it valuable in identifying places and things to do that I might otherwise have missed. We were up there about two weeks and I consulted this book - and The Lonely Planet Guide To Alaska daily. Here are some examples of why I found this book useful:1) I would not have known about the Aurora Express B&B in Fairbanks without this book. I cancelled a reservation at a national chain motel and was pleased with the Aurora Express B&B.We got to stay in an 80 foot Pullman car in a 700 foot long railroad train at over 700 feet elevation with a great view and great hosts and really good food.2) This book convinced us to visit the musk ox ranch in Palmer. What fun!3) The maps and tips were helpful.4) It served as a great companion to Lonely Planet.5) The photography is inspiring and helped me to set goals for my own photography.I kept it for future Alaska trip planning.

Start your research here!
Already a fan of National Geographic travel books because of their format and photography, it is no wonder the Alaska version was indispensable in planning our first trip there this year. While it (& other NG guidebooks) may not be as detailed and drawn out as other books, it is a great overview/starting point to help narrow your destination choices and activities.

Fine travel book
I bought this as a present for a friend who is visiting Alaska for the first time. I also picked up 2 other info/travel books but this is the one she is quoting all the time. Lots of great photos, maps, ideas & important info about the terrain and potential risks (mosquitoes, etc!) in a palatable format. Since then, I have bought 2 more (one for me & another friend also on the same trip) - there will be a quiz on Friday. Fine book - take it with you when you go.

Seeing Alaska
Lots of good info if you are planning a trip to Alaska. I went in 2011 and enjoyed all I could see. This book helps to find the best places to see and where to stay. Fortunately,I have friends in Anchorage. I think this book will help you plan that fantastic vacation you always wanted to take.

Usual plus some unusual info.
This book contains additional information that other travel books do not. It has the usual information too. It is not my favorite tour book on Alaska but I have learned fom it things that others do not include. Not as entertaining but it gives info in a concise manor.

The Best of Several Alaska Travel Books
We purchased several books for our upcoming trip to Alaska. The organization, information and photographs in this book made it the best resource of all. Highly recommended.

Great Background on Alaska
I wanted a travel book that let me learn about the history, culture, and landscape of Alaska and this book definitely hits that mark. It doesn't have tons of hotel or restaurant recommendations like the typical travel book, but I figure I rely more on the internet for those things anyway. I really like to delve into the background of a place and therefore I'm very satisfied with this book. (Great color photos too!)

Rural Alaska only
What you woul expect from National Geographic. Great pictures, excursions are well outlined and documented in pictures and with maps. Insider tips, not to be missed suggestions, and special experiences listings are worth buying the book alone. Very small section on hotels and eating but it is Alaska.
