Q: After reading this entire description, i'm still confused how this gift card works. does it work at Harkin's Theaters?

Not sure how things worked in 2015 but as of 2017, it does work at some Harkins Theaters. You can enter your zip in the search box of the Fandango website to find theaters. They also list their partner theaters here: https://www.fandango.com/movie-theaters. Before buying this as a gift for someone, you should check if there's a partner theater near them. The gift card is meant to be used as payment when buying tickets online from the Fandango website/app. An update to a previous answer: the full amount can be used; if $5 remain, you can use that remaining balance on the next movie & use a 2nd form of payment for rest of it. I've never encountered not being able to use the card due to any restrictions. At least as of 2017, I don't think this is a rip-off. There is a service fee but that's not uncommon when buying movie tickets online.

Q: Can this be used at showcase cinemas

To be honest, I don't know if Showcase Cinemas are covered. I live in a major metropolitan area and haven't found a single theater within reasonable driving distance accepts these. Plus, when I was reading up on redeeming them, I noticed that there are additional fees for using them for a movie. Worst Christmas gift ever.

Q: Does this work at Malco movie theaters?

not sure it works anywhere except at Fandango.com or on the Fandango app. However, the movie chain might have their own app or website that accepts it. Try purchasing tickets and see if they have a Fandango gift card option. I know the Fandango app now has an option to use Regal or Cinemark gift cards... so maybe
