Homes from Home: Inventive Small Spaces, from Chic Shacks to Cabins and Caravans

Vinny Lee’s book Kitchenalia was full of detailed photos and text that delivered full satisfaction with every page. Homes from Home, however, is disappointing, especially since a quick leaf through at the bookstore was enough to put the book on my “Must Buy This” list.Unfortunately, closer inspection reveals Homes from Home is hardly more than just a bunch of matte photographs of small living quarters related by material or location: wood, clay, canvas, water, trees. Each chapter has ample photographs as examples. But the homes chosen for further scrutiny are each given only 2 to 4 pages.Naturally, the structures range from small to tiny, but they each deserve more detail to get a sense of their livability, creativity, and funkiness. Ironically, the most interesting supporting homes are those NOT selected for a 2 or 4 page “spread”. They mostly get a single sentence caption for their sole photographs.Fewer extraneous photographs, more substantive selections, and even just a few house plans could have made this a top-notch book to treasure.Instead, Homes from Home left me wanting more. And not in a good way.

Interesting, provocative look at various ways to live and travel small. As usual with Vinny Lee books, gorgeously photographed examples in the best of taste.

As with all things 'Country Living' related, this did not disappoint. Brought it for a friend (haven't given it to her yet) but was quite tempted to keep it for myself! :) Would recommend.

This was bought as a birthday gift for my daughter who was moving into a caravan on a vineyard. It arrived well in time for her birthday despite my late ordering (I was panicking about this). It was also very well received by her, in her words 'I love it'.What more can be said a perfect gift.

Love this book...but then I would as some of my interiors photographs are used in it ;-)

What a lovely book. Beautiful photos - a lovely book to leave on your coffee table and dip into from time to time.

A lovely book with fantastic dream spaces. I think you could take ideas from many chapters of the book and merge them into your own personal space.
