I discovered these little beauties in Germany about a decade ago and whenever I travel there I'm sure to stock up. It's been over 2 years since I've been able to make it back to "The Fatherland" and much to my chagrin, my very last Palmolive Shave Stick is just about gone. These little gems last seemingly forever which is one of the reasons they're so great! I am absolutely THRILLED to find these on Amazon and ordered several. I doubt most Americans know what these are or how they work, so read below and learn why I love them!The cardboard packaging you see in the product picture contains one shave stick. Think of a glue stick or a lip balm without the scrolling, push-up base. The base is a green, round plastic holder inside which a foil-wrapped cylinder/stick of shaving soap sits. The stick is about 1 inch in diameter, about 4 inches tall and made of shaving "soap" (for lack of a better word). The stick has the consistency of bar soap, light green in color and the fragrance is amazingly masculine, fresh, soothing and smells like European men. You unwrap and peel the foil from the top of the stick and continue to roll down/peel off the foil as needed. Unlike a glue stick, deodorant or lip balm, there's no little screwy thing at the bottom to push fresh product up -- you just peel off a bit of the foil around the stick.Here's how you use it and why I love it. After showering and exfoliating in a hot steamy shower, you wet the end of the shaving stick under hot running water and apply it to your beard in a swirling motion. A little bit of soapy shaving lather will stick to your beard. You rub it in and make sure you've covered all areas you intend to shave, alternately wetting the tip of the stick again before re-applying if needed. Then you shave as you normally would, making sure to alternately rinse your razor. Your razor will glide across your face smoothly and cleanly. The key selling point here is that unlike having a white frothy "Santa beard" of standard shaving foam or gel, you can actually see your face. The shaving stick's lather is so light and translucent that you can easily edge, shape and trim around facial hair like goatees, mustaches, sideburns...etc. Any guy who's inadvertently chopped off half of his mustache, ended up with a lop-sided goatee or uneven sideburns can feel my pain...and understand why these little sticks rock. When you're done shaving, simply rinse and clean your face with a hot, damp washcloth and you're ready to go!I shave every other day, all year long. One of these little sticks seems to last me roughly 6-8 months, so the value is unparalleled. These shave sticks are classic, beautiful in their simplicity and give a cleaner, smoother and more predictable shave that most contemporary American shaving foams and gels, in my humble opinion. I'm thrilled to find these in the US although that doesn't change my plans for my next trip to Germany!

The Palmolive stick, which cost a bit more, produced a richer and denser lather, providing a more luxurious and comfortable shave. Now you can buy the same great Palmolive shave stick at a very affordable price and experience this classic shaving opportunity for yourself every morning. First, wet your beard with the hottest water you can comfortably tolerate. Then simply rub the surface of the area to be shaved with the Palmolive shave stick using circular motions. Then, after wetting your shaving brush with hot water, rub the shave stick in circular motions across the tips of the bristles. Now you're ready to witness the "magic" of this product. Just move the tips of the bristles of your shaving brush (using very little pressure) in circular motions across the area to be shaved, beginning with the neck and the area under the chin. Suddenly you see an explosion of dense, luxurious, emolient-rich lather. Wet the brush lightly with more hot water, and work the lather into the consistency you prefer. Now wet your razor with hot water, and you're ready for a great shave. Your shaving brush now holds more than enough rich, smooth-shaving lather to shave and re-shave your face as many times as you like for the closest, smoothest shave you've ever had.You'll also notice that you've barely used any of the shaving stick at all. The handy foil wrapper makes it easy to wrap, and stash or pack.The fact is, this wonderful shave stick will last for months of great shaves. A lot of men use only two sticks per year, while many find that one stick provides a full year's worth of great shaves! Now that's value. Also, the Palmolive shave stick has no heavy fragrance--only a light, clean aroma that will not compete or clash with your choice of after-shave or cologne. And if you travel a lot, as I do, this product is small, feather-light, and no matter how you pack it, there's never a worry about an exploded mess inside your suitcase or briefcase. Because of this fact (and my fast-growing beard), I carry the shave stick and my razor with me for a quick "clean-up" anytime or anywhere. Also, although I don't personally recommend it, if you want to, you can effectively use the Palmolive Shave Stick WITHOUT a shaving brush. Finally: Last time I checked, Amazon still has the best price on this product. My advice: don't get less than two sticks when you place your order.

Bought this for nostalgic reasons. In Italy, my husband and I bought the foam version of this shave cream and a couple of travel size cans came back with us. A year after our trip we ran out of Aveeno and I reached for the Italian Palmolive. Scent is the most powerful memory trigger and I immediately was back in Italy. For the duration of that shower I recalled every shower and every bathroom and every apartment we encountered in Italy.I would pull out the Palmolive Classic shave cream when I needed to go somewhere else for awhile.When we ran out I tried to order the foam online but discovered it is not available in North America, and apparently can't be shipped, so I ordered the stick and a shave brush. Neither of us had heard of shave soap on a stick so it took some experimentation and a couple of YouTubes to figure it out.Now stick & brush are the way we shave. And the scent still reminds me of Italy and Fancy Times when another trip was always around the corner. I'll admit sometimes I use the stick to wash my hands forearms because the scent is so happy-making.

A good quality product at a decent price. The scent is also a classic shaving scent.

Bought a couple sticks. I use them it with a brush and bowl and a little hot water to lather up.Works great...comparable to Arko shaving soap, just a little more firm.

Smells good and inoffensive, it's easy to whip up a great quality lather, the size and format are great for travel, and best of all they're cheap! Really, you can't go wrong with the Palmolive shave sticks.

I tried the product before and reordered because of the small size. suitable for travel and not liquid. wet your face than apply the stick. Lather with shaving brush. Price is good, quality is good, arrived as expected, well packed. I recommend the product and the supplier.

Another product that I ordered from Amazon on a whim. Supposedly, these shaving sticks are a rage all over Europe - although they are unheard of in USA or Canada. The item arrived within the expected time frame and was well packed. The shave stick does take some time to lather up and it has a nice smell that can linger for quite sometime.

It's TINY. I knew it would be small but it's so small that it's hard to hold wet. Might as well just order the Tabac stick. You get the rich lather with Tabac and it's twice the size.
