My first chicken coop
I’ve had this coop for awhile now so I feel good about writing a review. It was fairly easy to put together, instructions were pretty clear. It was slightly miss made but it works, I love the fact that the roof opens up and the poop pan is a great idea but the house is a little miss made so the pan is hard to slide in and out. I think I have more chickens in it than it says it can hold but some are bantam breeds I have 13 chickens, 9 regular size and 4 bantam size. They have no problem all fitting inside the coop but most choose to roost on top of the coop at night. That’s fine because I have the coop setting up on concrete blocks and have built a tin shack around it to house the coop and all my fed buckets. I can’t really attest to the weather proofing because I did build a roof and walls around it for further protection from the elements. It’s been a good little coop for my purposes.

Total disappointment
We had high hopes for this coop for our 5 hens, but it has been one disappointment after another. The first thing to know is that it is very, very small--the right size for 2, maybe 3 chickens, but way too crowded for 5. My husband put the coop together easily enough and was overall pleased with the process, but structurally it started failing immediately. He had to prop bricks under the nesting box part because the bottom of it totally collapsed, and eventually the main coop itself needed brick reinforcement to keep the bottom from collapsing. Rain got into the nesting boxes early on, but my husband caulked it, and that helped. While I believe the claim that the coop is coyote- and fox-proof, it is definitely not raccoon-proof. Any raccoon could easily use the open seams to tear off the flimsy wood. Even with some customization (e.g., strong bungee cord to secure the top), I've lived in constant fear about the chickens' safety. I also keep a baited trap next to it and have already caught a raccoon, possum, and fox. Now that it's winter, the coop is drafty, with 1/8" to 1/2" inch wide gaps in it at various parts where the walls meet the floor. It's also really hard to clean, even with the top open--it's an odd angle and hard to ever get the right access. Six months later, we are buying a plastic shed and converting it to a much larger and more functional coop. That will give the chickens three times the square feet and will cost less than this one did. I'd definitely recommend shopping around before spending money on a coop you very likely will need to quickly replace.

Good coop for the money but be prepared to repair/upgrade a few things
This coop is a great value for the size and quality. I searched on many websites to find the best deal for a kit coop that would hold about 6 hens. This was an easy choice. I read the reviews saying that some areas need reinforcing and I agree completely. That said, I found the assembly to be very simple. My 6yo helped me the few times I needed an extra set of hands. A lot of it is held together with small trim nails and some of those pieces arrived broken. I just wood glued them back together. On that note, put every piece together with a generous amount of wood glue. It will make it much more sturdy. That's good advice for most self-assembled furniture. This coop should be pretty easy to clean and will hold 6 large hens comfortably. I live in the Houston area, so I'm more concerned with heat than cold. It should allow pretty good ventilation on warm nights but probably wouldn't offer much heat protection because the wood is very thin.Outside of the broken pieces I had to fix (which wasn't very hard) you will want to upgrade the little blocks used to keep from sliding out the poop tray from either side. That is pretty easy. The other thing I would improve involves the nesting boxes. The floors are removable to help with cleaning. That's a good thing. But they rest on a very narrow lip that I would not trust. Probalby not even with the weight of the chickens but I think it would also be pretty easy for a predator to get in through there as others have said would happen. I'd glue/nail a larger piece of wood on the bottom of that channel to give it more of an overlap. Maybe even a thicker board for them to nest on. I haven't done that yet but I will before I put my chickens in there. But all-in-all, short of building your own, this is a coop kit I would recommend. If that changes as I use it I will update this review.

Easy to Assemble BUT Low Quality Materials
Overall, the coop is “ok”. The coop on its own 3 star product. The positives: it has an excellent design. There are several ways to access various parts of the coop. Additionally, it is very easy to assemble. It can be assembled by one person in a few hours. A second person helping can significantly reduce the time required for assembly. The coop can adequately house 6-8 chickens. It is quite portable. Fully constructed, I am guessing it weighs no more than 30-40 pounds. The negatives: It uses low quality materials. The boards/frame are very thin (weak) and could be broken by a small child. With that in mind, be prepared to protect and fortify the structure. We are making several modifications in hopes that the structure will survive wind, rain, and snow. Even with modifications, I am not sure how many seasons the structure will last.

Mediocre Middle of the line coop
Definitely not worth the money. I would value this coop at $150. The design is fine. I read the reviews so I knew it would not house as many birds as it claimed. I have six medium sized birds and it’s barely enough room. The wood is soft so when my husband bumped it with the lawnmower the lip that hold the bottom tray broke. Since the lip was thin to begin with there isn’t much to nail it back onto. When assembling not everything lined up properly so we had to use some ingenuity to make it work. Luckily with has the tools but someone else might not. All in all it’s not terrible. It’s got lots of openings for easy egg gathering, chicken wrangling and poop cleaning. It’s cute. Functional but the materials make it less than durable.

Good design, easy to access egg boxes and clean
The wood could be a little thicker, but overall a very nice coop for the money. I added an automatic door in the back and the chicks dig it! 😁 we put it inside the 10’x20’ pen also from Amazon and i is the perfect setup for us.
