Architectural Theory, Volume 2: An Anthology from 1871 to 2005

If Ulrich Conrad's 'Programs and Manifestoes on 20th-Century Architecture' is the cream of the crop collection, then this book is the crop. It provides greater selections, depth, and minutiae to the thinking of modern architecture.

Excellent overview of architectural thinking in the "Western" world. The edited excepts from treatises makes them very accessible to students and teachers alike. It ends at 2005, however. A newer edition that comes closer to the present would be great. For the reader who wants a truly global treatment of architectural theory this book is very limited, in that regard.

Auch wenn die Auswahl der Texte trotz der sehr guten Strukturierung bisweilen auch eklektische Züge trägt, ist neben der Fülle an Texten vor allem die Vielfalt der Autoren ein großer Vorzug dieses nach wie vor gültigen Standardwerks. Dass auch Blickwinkel abseits der Profession einbezogen werden, ist in dieser Fülle vermutlich einzigartig.
