It begins with cast ons and ends with bind offs. The information is wonderful for every knitter's library. As most knitters, I tend to use a single type of cast on and bind off and tend to stick with these techniques. As the author states, this is usual. The author discusses how she realized that different projects call for different types of cast ons and bind offs and that "different situations call for different techniques, and that using the right one has a huge impact on the finished garment." Most of us learned a particular type of cast on or bind off from the person who taught us how to knit and we tend to stick with that. "My hope is that this book opens a new world of possibilities and expands your horizons for beginning and ending a knitted project." This book can be used to learn new techniques, offers ways to experiment with different techniques and opens us up to a whole world of casting on and binding off that we didn't even know existed. The cast ons are divided into basic ones, stretchy, decorative, circular, double-sided, multicolor, provisional, tubular and mobius. The bind offs include basic, stretchy, decorative, and sewn. The photographs, drawings and diagrams are excellent and show in detail how to do each type of cast on and bind off. As a relatively experienced knitter I thought I knew quite a bit about casting on and binding off. This book opened me up to a whole new world of binding off and casting of. It's a wonderful reference book and one I don't know how I did without until now. I highly recommend it and plan to try many of these techniques right away. It is an essential addition to my knitting library. Review: Useful Reference for Casting-on or Binding-off - This review is for the Kindle version of the book. (I already had the print version, but I wanted to have a digital reference book that I could easily take with me when away from home.) Although this book does not have every cast-on or bind-off ever invented, is does have a nice selection of the most frequently used cast-ons and bind-offs. It gives a brief overview of cast-ons and bind-offs. Each step of the cast-on/bind-off contains written instructions and is illustrated with color photos. The photos can be enlarged on the Kindle or I-Pad so you can easily see the details. (The I-Pad, of course, gives you slightly larger photos, because the screen is larger than the Kindle.) The cast-ons and bind-offs are organized by characteristics such as, stretchy, multi-color, decorative, etc. There are a few specialized cast-ons like the mobius cast on. I have found this book to be very useful.

Nice format with good organization discussing methods not seen in more popular knitting books
I liked this book. It’s size is convenient considering the size of most knitting books. It lays flat when open making it easier to follow along when practicing or learning a new method. Mind that any new spiral bound page will tear if you aren’t careful when initially turning the pages. I didn’t have an issue and I would assume most careful adept knitters wouldn’t either. The techniques are well categorized and explained. I did go to YouTube to see the methods applied but honestly some of the methods in the book I wouldn’t have known about except for the book. Once I saw it done on YouTube, the book was all I needed to refresh my memory when I wanted to use a method again. To those of you who like to give negative reviews without really explaining your negativity: a huge raspberry!!! Stop giving negative reviews for something you did and the item didn’t. This book deserves applause for doing something that no “comprehensive” knotting books care to do and in a format meant to be used. Pages too thin for you: go stick with children’s books! My favorite cast on is now the “old Norwegian.” Thanks, book, you get my 5 stars!!!!

Practical, User-Friendly Resource
This is a wonderful 208-page cast-on/bind-off resource by leslie Ann Bestor, from its sturdy spiral-bound back which keeps the book open flat to its easy-organized table of contents and index/resource list. Pages are heavy bond which will help it stand up to use without making the book bulky. Its neat size makes it easy to carry. Each technique is described, photographed and labeled clearly, with photographed and detailed written instructions for execution. Additional features include characteristics of each technique and the type of garments that the cast-on or bind-off options are best for. Cast-on/Bind-off is a treasure that I expect to keep for a long time!

More information than I thought
I am a fairly new knitter and struggle sometimes with books and stitches because it's hard for me to read a description and translate that into me doing the action. While I do have books, I have relied on videos. When I looked at some of the pages of this book, I decided to take a chance on it. I am attempting to knit socks so knowing different cast-on and bind-off methods have become more important than they generally are for me. This is a pretty nice little book! So far it looks like the explanations are great but at any time if I feel I need more information, I can see the different methods for what I want and then know what it's called so I can do some web research for videos. The way I see it is it doesn't cover all the things, just cast-on and bind-off, so it can concentrate on all the ways to do it for the effect you want or need. It's not as overwhelming as a huge book (I have those too) and it is easy to find what I want (like a stretchy bind-off) and explore my different options. This isn't an expensive book at all, I feel you can't go wrong with it unless you know all of this information without it. I did not.
