Writing Creative Nonfiction

I ordered this because I wanted something useful for when I experience writer's block. Along with the insight from writers whose work I love, there are exercises at the end of each chapter to help with revising/improving your own work. Highly recommend.

This book approaches the subject differently from any other books about non-fiction writing. He covers important topics such as libel, legal issues, and writing about wartime and violent weather. Humor is difficult to put in non-fiction, but he makes it sound easy. This is a book for all writers.

I'm far from finishing, even retired people have lives. I've only read two of the essays and have learned that the stories (chapters) I've been writing but fictionalizing may be to creative to be creative nonfiction. The writing suggestions in the essays are still useful.

The editors found an interesting way to illustrate various topics of writing nonfiction: The first section has articles by teachers of nonfiction followed by actual nonfiction by these same teachers. I am making a move from fiction into non-fiction. This book has well written articles that talk about the author's expreiences in writing non-fiction but did not contribute greatly to my understanding of the gendre.

Philip Gerard knows how to combine the skill of journalism with the emotional impact of life stories. The works chosen here give writers many perspectives and hints about how to produce solid creative nonfiction. A good source for writers.

I like and learn with this book. It presents essential information for writers in a creative 'easy-to-read' format. Well written and worth the price.
