Great!!! That is until....
So I was really digging this kit; had the whole right joy-con unit together. I’m just about to finish the left one, and just when adding on the final screw I notice the finish on mine was missing, like it missed painting that part....You know what a pain in the butt it would be undo both joycons and send them back for an exchange right??I’ve reached out to the company to see if they will send me a replacement. I will update my review when I hear back. I’ve enclosed pictures the unfinished plastic panel.I highly suggest you give yours a look over before you put it together.

Misleading "Longevity"
So disappointed in this product. I got these less than 2 weeks ago and have hardly even used my new joycon shells and the color is already starting to become distorted (as well as my new white buttons). They're now orange on the sides. I keep up with my hygiene all day long, my hands are never oily and I clean my controllers regularly with a non-abrasive wipe. Wishing for my money back and a better experience.

Really nice; make sure you go slowly and take your time!
I'd been on the fence about getting some joycons in non-official colors (was thinking about getting them painted) for a while. Turns out these shells were the exact shade of pastel pink I was looking for! The texture on them is a really nice soft matte. It was nice that the kit came with extra screws and buttons as well as the tools in case you don't have a triwing lying around. I definitely recommend taking your time and watching videos as you go step by step; it's really easy to make small mistakes due to the nature of the small, fiddly interior components. Definitely recommend getting some tweezers to help with the ribbon cables, as it's almost impossible to reinsert them with just your fingers. All in all, took me a couple of hours or so and I'm really happy with the results.

DO NOT buy these. Not worth the money or the work.
The media could not be loaded. I bought this skin and the buttons from the same company. I received all of the parts during the last week of March and made the changes to my brand new, out of the box, joy-cons within a few days, so I have at least two full months using the joy-cons after having installed both the buttons and the skin. I've waited until I got a lot of game play in to write my review for this product.First, I DO NOT recommend taking the joy-cons apart at all to put in new buttons or a new skin. I watched a few youtube videos before purchasing that claimed that replacing the buttons and/or skin was tedious, but doable for inexperienced people, but that is extremely misleading. I want to go a head and say DO NOT DO THIS. I myself am fairly inexperienced at customizing electronics, but I went forward with customizing the joy-cons with my fiancé's help (he builds custom computers and has a lot of experience taking electronic parts apart and putting them back together). Even for someone who has experience doing this, the parts and space inside the controller are extremely small and any wrong move you make can impact the controls.I didn't immediately notice to any issue with my joy-cons after we completed the changes, but a few days after we customized the joy-cons, I tried to use one of mine to play Mario party with my fiancé and found the the right joy-con will not register for single controller use. I thought the issue had more to do with the fact that we were using different joy-cons from different pairs, so I grabbed the pair for our other joy-con set and didn’t think to much about it for a while. After about a month and a half after the customization, I noticed some delayed responses to some of my controls when playing. I’ve been heavily paying Animal Crossing during quarantine, so I assumed it was a low battery issue, but after charging the Switch and joy-cons and moving the joy-cons to the joy-con grip, my right joy-con (same one as before) kept temporarily losing connection during extended game play. Then, when I tried to move my Animal Crossing game into two player mode, I found that my left joy-con worked fine, but my right joy-con would not register as a single controller (again, the same issue as before, but this time I wasn’t using joy-cons from two different sets).I still use my joy-cons, but I can’t use them for game play that requires precise controls, like fishing in Animal Crossing or boss fights in BOTW. The toughest issue with the joy-cons is that most of the games will use the controls on the right joy-con for actions, so I really am limited in some of the things I can do with my joy-con.I don’t recommend replacing either the skin or the buttons for the joy-cons, as any customization you do to the joy-cons requires you to take the whole thing apart. I understood that making these customizations could affect the integrity of the joy-cons, which is why I bought a new pair to use for the customizations; However, even considering my precautions, I still don’t recommend customizing the joy-cons, even if it’s a second pair, because you’ll be limited in the uses for those joy-cons (can’t use them in Mario Party, for games that need more accurate controls, etc.).For as easy as this company attempts to make customization with their video tutorials and the tools they include with the product, you really are just wasting your money and time with these products because the joy-cons are not made to be easily customizable and even someone with more experience in customizing electronics will find it difficult to manage the small ribbons, small parts, and small wires. In the end, you won’t be able to make full use of the joy-cons and will probably need to buy yet another new pair. The soft feel of the skin and variety of colors is not worth trouble in customizing and the risk of not being about to you the joy-cons afterwards.

Aaahh my god this housing is STUNNING! I am so glad they released this color, now I'm just crossing my fingers that they release the backplate at some point so I can complete the look (and maybe a Dpad for the left controller). The feel of these is very smooth but I actually prefer the smooth to the original joycon texture. Everything was easy for me to install, but I've rehoused my switch a few times before so I had a good idea of how it would go. I did not use the tools/screws provided, so I cannot speak about their quality, but the quality of the shells is beautiful. The buttons come in a mold and you have to pop them out, so I did have to file the edges just a tiny bit to get the sharp points off. I only used their SR/SL buttons for the side of the joycons, I preferred the look/texture of the regular black buttons for the front (but that's just my aesthetic). I do wish that the middle piece of each joycon was also the duochrome color instead of being black, so there's a small sliver of black between the R/L and ZR/ZL buttons. All of the buttons work great, the only thing I noticed is that the ZR/ZL buttons dont have as much spring movement as the original ones, but they still click great and it has no effect on gameplay. The pieces all fit perfectly together, and I did not need to file down any edges unlike the basstop shells.

AMAZING
So I bought this item thinking it would be really easy to install. Boy was I wrong. But with the help of a YouTube tutorial as it didn’t come with instructions other than the image on the sale screen, I did it! I decided to keep the original buttons as I left they looked nicer. All the pieces it comes with fit really well. I didn’t have to mess with anything to try get it to fit right. It looks amazing in any light and I’m very pleased with it. Came within 12 hours of me ordering it. Amazing company and a quality product

Beautiful product - if you know how to install things!
Let me start by saying that the product is exactly what it says on the tin and, if installed correctly - see my second photo - looks and works lovely. HOWEVER. It's a pain to disassemble and re-assemble. You should purchase a separate Y00 tri-wing screwdriver at the very least, and preferably a complete switch dissasembly kit since the tools provided with the eXtremeRate product are extremely sub-par.After that, make sure that you have a good lighting source (I used a couple of bright LED technical lamps) and preferably either an anti-static or rubber mat to catch and sort any screws. KEEP TRACK OF YOUR SCREWS! There are lots, of different sizes and both phillips and tri-wing configurations. You don't want to forget which is which! Preferable photograph each state on your phone as you go and follow the youtube video mentioned in the item description.ALSO I highly recommend using an anti-static wristband, the kind used for computer repair stuff, to avoid frying any of the components. I'm a computer technician and network engineer and even with this, and not replacing the buttons (since I was happy with the default switch buttons) the install of both joycon shells and the back plate took me about 5 hours. Don't go into this thinking it's a two minute job! That said, if you're prepared to put the effort in - the end results are totally worth it :).

Tricky but oh so worth it..
I must confess this took me a very long time to do. I actually stripped the screws on my first try of getting the case off and had to buy another joycon. After this however I had no problems with the fiddly parts inside but getting the ribbon cables back in was stressful. All works! Looks great! I did it myself and very pleased about it. Overall I am 100% satisfied.

Amazing product, but get your own screwdrivers for an extra £10 to avoid a headache
The item itself is really quite good. You are given extra screws and buttons which is great. Parts fit as good as typical nintendo shells. The problem comes with the included tri-wing screwdriver included. Its god awful and strips every screw. If you do manage to get the screws out use the new included long black screws which are philips heads. Far far easier to use. One joycon took me about an hour with the only problem being the screws. Probably more a nintendo fault. I would suggest getting some fine pointed tweezers so you dont break any ribbon cables. I wouldnt get this product if you are not 100% sure on how to work on micro electronics or have a backup plan incase you break something. All joycon ribbon components can be bought cheap though. All in all great product they just need a better tri-wing screwdriver.

Great product but installation requires a skilled hand
We recently got our daughter a Nintendo Switch for her birthday and wanted to allow her to personalise it, to stand out a bit and thought these were perfect. The built quality of the covers is great and you cannot tell they are not Nintendo once in place. However a word of warning, they can be very difficult to put together, I am very experienced in carrying out repairs and upgrades on small devices such as phones etc. As such thought this would be the JoyCons are another level, for the most part the swap over process is straight forward, until you get to the triggers. The way these are joined to the casing is not very easy to remove/replace (Nintendo design), underneath is a small micro switch with a metal cover and it is very easy to damage the micro switch if you are not aware. Luckily with my experience I was able to repair the micro switch. But please bare this in mind when buying.Once in place they are fantastic and my daughter loves them, highly recommended just do not expect a 10 minute change over.
