Plug & Play in An Old Dell Vostro 1520
The CD player in the old Dell Vostro wouldn't read the small CD that came with the card. I used a different computer to copy the files to a USB stick. Before clicking the install file, I checked device manager, and lo & behold the Renesas USB 3.0 was already present. I put the USB 3.0 stick in the card, and it read it and formatted it just fine. Glad I looked before trying to install 2014 drivers. The Microsoft driver is 2024. I didn't need the external power-to-USB cable. This is old technology. The Dell Vostro from days gone by is built solid. It feels indestructible. I'm keeping it more as a relic than anything, but hey, it has the ExpressCard 54 slot, and I was happy to find this card for <$12 that gives it USB 3.0. I didn't check it for speed, and I didn't transfer enough files to generate any heat, so I can't comment on those factors. I was pleasantly surprised it was plug & play, and that it works. Good enough for me considering it's yesteryear's technology.

Works with USB WIFI adapter
I had to search and install the driver for Windows 10 22H2. I bought it to use my WIFI 7 USB dongle because my laptop can only use up to 5 GHz ac . Also all the USB ports are 2.0 so I installed this to increase its speed. The good is that connecting the WiFi adapter to the card works. Also the USB connection through the card has been more stable than on the laptop’s USB port as I previously would hear it disconnecting and reconnecting often. I haven’t heard or noticed any disconnection with the adapter connected to the express card. The bad is that WIFI speed only increased from 220 to 300 and it didn’t at least reach a gigabit. I thought that this interface would at least reach some usb 3 speeds but no.

It works!
The card appears sturdy and well made. Nice snug fit. Installed easily but slightly hard to remove. No matter because I never intended to remove it. I needed extra USB ports for my laptop and this card accomplished that. Worth buying.

Only one of the two USB ports works
The USB 3.0 card installed correctly and one of the two ports works well. However, the second port does not detect any devices. I tested different devices, used the auxiliary power cable, and also tested it on both Windows 7 and Linux Mint. Same result: one port works and the other does not. The unit I received appears to be defective.

Resist the siren song of this card’s low price.
I bought this as a backup for my original Startech card. My system didn’t recognize that this card was present. Meanwhile, the Startech card “just works”. Also, one must insert flash drives UPSIDE DOWN! Trying to return such a small, relatively inexpensive item would be a lot of trouble for little gain, so I’ll just eat the expense, and call it a lesson learned. UPSHOT: I’ve just now ordered another Startech card!

works up to a point
well, this/these cards do work and increase the speed making copying of large backups so much faster but they do get hot fast if left plugged in and especially if you have two drives connected to it for backing up and as soon as they do, they stop working and will drop the connection. that could also damage the drive files. if you get one, don't leave it plugged in and connect it only during use and remove it and let it cool off. don't lose the driver mini cd.

My older laptop with Windows 10 detected the card perfectly
Didn't even need to load the drivers from the disk. A+. Inserting a USB cord is not as SNUG tight as my other ports. That is the only flaw which is not overly loose, just not tight snug if you know what I mean.
