How close does the plug have to be? I'm thinking about 3metres?

The cable from the Optimate to the plug is approximately 1.5 metres, so 1.5 metres. I keep my Optimate in the garage and use two extension leads from the Optimate to the car on the drive with no problems. I hope that this helps.

Do I really have to disconnect the battery from the vehicle to use this?

Morning, The charger comes with two leads, One of them is a permanent lead so you can fit this to the battery and charge the battery without removing the battery everytime. Hope this information helps. A&J Supplies

Is it normal for the charger to get quite hot when charging? Many thanks.

Mine is on all the time and it is warm but not hot

Can the optimate 6 be used on a bmw canbus sysyem? do you have to do all the same things as with the optimate 4?

My Mercedes is A Canbus system and so is my BMW motorcycle. I have an Optimate 5 on the bike and an Optimate 6 on the car and both work well. On the car I had the power point in the boot wired live all of the time so I didn’t have to keep lifting the bonnet and taking covers off the battery. If my experience is anything to go by you should have no problem. Good luck. John
