Steve Vai - Passion & Warfare

If you can play any of this, you are a master! This is one of the most detailed tabliture books I have ever seen in my life! I mean, WOW! Steve Vai really lays it out here. Very detailed descriptions, drawings, theory, art work. The whole nine yards man! Just awesome! I highly recommend this Tab. Book.

I originally bought this book in 1991 when it was first published. A year or so ago I realized it was missing. I checked other websites, but as another reviewer mentioned, the Amazon price can't be beat. I like these Hal Leonard Recorded Versions tab books a lot because they appear to be very accurate representations of how the artist plays the songs, thanks in part (I believe) because they include input/review from the artists. I also like these books because they do a good job of breaking down all the parts in some very complex songs; for example, all the layers in "Liberty" are there, and I found the same to be true for all the guitar layers in the HL tab book for Def Leppard's "Hysteria" album. If you're looking to learn these songs, or even just some of Vai's technique, this book - plus maybe the Naked Tracks that are available on Amazon as mp3s - is a fantastic resource.

Great book. If you want to bring your playing to the next level, work this whole album. Oh and try to get your hands on a harmonizer! Ha.

I recently purchased a Steve Vai Jem Jr guitar shortly after purchasing this songbook and album of the same name. I have come to appreciate this guy more than ever as the guitar plays like a dream as does Steve himself.

What can I say, it's Steve Vai, so it's going to be tough on you, but it really gives you an insight into just how complex this musician is. Even if most of the stuff in here is out of your skill level, it's still an awesome book to work with, to really try to push yourself to the next level.

5 stars on the translation, 4 on the notation used. It is not a common notation I am used to viewing. For example, bends take some time to read quickly and are done with only up or down arrows. Also, sometimes the fonts used are much larger or smaller than other fonts in the same measure. It does take a little getting used to but the translation seems to be very accurate which is most important.

Excellent book! Very comprehensive. I plan on transcribing to Sibelius so I can slow down the parts to practice. It's also very cool to see how Steve put the songs together. Definitely worth the $

It's the best reference for Vaiesque playing. I love this book and I've gotten better at guitar because of it. Packaging, though, could've been better. Not bad but could've been better.

Per me che non suono da più di dieci anni, acquistare questo spartito significa tornare adolescente con tutti i discorsi sulla musica mai sopiti veramente e urlati in faccia agli amici e a quelli che non apprezzavano questi guizzi d'ingegno. Magari se ritorno a suonare... Sognare è comunque gratis. Grande Steve non delude mai!
