Classic looks with a modern sound
I recommend giving the Denton 85s a try as I have been enjoying the listening experience for the last 10 months. An excellent speaker for music more so than an audio visual applications. Placement should put the offset tweeters positioned towards the middle. Allow some distance away from the rear wall for the ports to work. Too close and bass is boomy. Mine are approximately 12 "out from the wall. The speakers have a solid build quality. The retro appearance is appealing. Modern soundstage and excellent imaging with adequate bass. Pleasant to listen to at low to moderate volume levels. They will play cleanly at loud levels. I recommend adding a subwoofer to round out the bottom end. They perform well with orchestral, jazz, acoustic and vocal stylists of all genres. Metal not so much as rapid bass pulses can tend to lag. I'm using an Arcam Sa10 amplifier, IFI Audio Zen Streamer for streaming hi res music files via Ethernet. Stream only premium quality or hi res files as the Dentons will expose flaws in digital music. I let the Dentons run at their full sonic bass range not using the subwoofer crossover. Sub is set at 44 Hz. Sub volume depends on mix needed for selection but never too high. Excellent with jazz, remastered Beatles, Jethro Tull, Rolling Stones and 70s classics.

Look good, sound great
Great speakers for my medium sized room. Awesome midrange and they get plenty loud for my tastes. They also look great with or with out the speaker covers (I will say magnetic covers would have been nice at this price point, but a small complaint overall).

Elegant Hi-Fi Sounds That The Wife Also Loves
I've been a Hi-Fi nerd for some years now and have gone through a number of speakers. When getting my most recent pair of speakers, I wanted something that not only sounds amazing, but also fit in well with our home decor and furniture, and also didn't dominate the living room (unfortunately no tower speakers).Enter the Wharfedale Denton 85's. While I would love the Linton's, the Denton's made more sense for a sleek look that blended in with our living area. These speakers thrive on mids and uppers, with a naturally warmer sound. I paired them with a Purifi Class D Amp, Topping D90 DAC/preamp, and small subs that helped full in where the lows lacked. I could not be more happy with my results! When using Amazon Music through USB on a PC, these speakers capture the full detail, clarity, and spacing of each voice and instrument. They are not harsh so there's no fatigue even after hours of listening. While I swore I'd never do so, I opted to use Stereo for TV and Movie audio as well (through Optical and a Fire TV Cube) and I was pleasantly surprised. I have not missed a center channel now and I regularly get compliments on how clean and detailed the sound is, whether listening to music or watching TV.These are one of my favorite items I own, I've used them as my primary house system for over 2 years now, and I plan to keep them for many more.

A fun, dynamic little speaker!
Took a gamble and ordered the 85th Anniversary Dentons without knowing a whole lot about them. After about a week of playing time they really opened up and have become one of my favorite speakers. They're not your typical polite high-end speakers with tons of air. Instead they're punchy and dynamic and they convey live and acoustic music with eerie realism. Voices are spot on and at times you'd be convinced these are a lot bigger than they are. They're a touch bright with the grills off, but Wharfedale says the Dentons were voiced with them on which is how I run them. I like the retro cabinets and the overall attention to detail. If you search for hifiworld Denton 85th, you'll find a 5-star review that sums up my experience pretty well.
