Assassination Classroom, Vol. 1

Fantastic offering from Viz on one of the newest big series coming from Shonen Jump in Japan. The classroom setting is a setting that has been done many times before in media and in manga. However, with the touch of assassinations on it as well as a nice message on quality education and helping the kids rise to their best in adverse conditions, it feels fresh and new. It is fresh and new twoo with its mix of characters. I enjoy how their class also doesnt have the usual suspects, like a jokster or a bully, but instead offers one of cohesiveness and camaraderie. Everyone is working together. The volume features 7 chapters. There is an extra two page omake of sorts. In between chapters there are character profile pages, and some other little drawings too. There is no color insert like what is offered with some of their other Shonen Jump Advanced manga. In terms of names, everyone seems to be kept the same as they were in the JPN version, honorifics arent there (so no more Karma kun), however they do call the teacher Koro sensei (which is a pun), and one that Im glad for. Volume 2 will introduce another challenge for the translators and a western version, what will they call Irina...

What if you were assigned to a classroom and instructed to kill your teacher? We've all had teachers that we wish to get rid of, but what if the teacher was an alien who could move at Mach 20? Welcome to Classroom 3-E. Full of all the "rejects" and losers from the main school building. If your grades were failing or your conduct was poor you were transferred to this room. An alien has come to earth and upon destroying the moon to a permanent crest has decided to become a teacher. He wants to help polish the students in Classroom 3-E. Oh and upon graduation the students must assissinate him or else he destroys Earth. Isn't that lovely? This alien is a tricky one at that, he also has more tentacles than an octopus and could be compared to one. The normal things that would kill a human, doesn't affect him. The students are asssigned weapons and BB's to help take this creature down. They may try to kill him at anytime as long as it doesn't interfere with their studies. Nagisa's the main character of the group who's a guy. Now from the drawings and little pigtails in his hair. . .I confess I thought he was a she. Strange, misleading hairstyles. . . Anyways, he calmly collects information about Koro Sensei, the students gave the alien this nickname since he didn't have a true name. Karma's a cool, sneak attack assissian who's been suspended but upon returning he seems to be a bit of a true match for our teacher. Still needs to be polished and I'll tell you this he really does get polished by Koro Sensei. Tee hee. I love this book in how there's an intense mixture of comedy and impending doom upon the students. Koro Sensei's not allowed to harm any of the students in his classroom until after graduation. He also doesn't take them seriously because they're children. I really loved this book and I had a constant smile on my face as I read. I didn't catch any foul language but I think they're may have been a little. Nothing compared to my loud neighbors that drop the f bomb every three words. No sexual stuff, until the very end, but there's no step by step or anything. Just a female assassian eliminating a male target. This is going to be a great series I just know it. I hope to read more about this interesting teacher who wishes to destroy earth and yet he acts like a normal, caring teacher with his students.

I bought this after having already watched the anime and I love it. The art is wonderful and the writing is silly. This is a pretty lighthearted story addressing more serious issues. The main theme throughout the series (that I have seen so far) is that everyone has potential and you just have to believe in yourself. The premise of this story is that a mutant...thing blew up a portion of the moon, and then says he will blow up the earth...but he has a request that is beneficial to humanity. He will hold off on the destruction of the earth if he is allowed to be the teacher of a prestigious highschool's E-class, a class of the school's rejects. He will teach this class proper school studies, and grant them alone the right to kill him. If these students can kill him before the school year ends, humanity is saved. As the story progresses, students attempt to murder him, and when they fail, they tend to feel inadequate, thus, as a teacher, the enemy of earth gives them pointers and shapes them up to be confident in their ability. There is plenty of darkness in this story, but overall, it's a fun read full of likable characters. Especially the teacher, Kuro Sensei.

It's a great concept, a class that is tasked with assassinating their alien teacher who will destroy the world if they are unsuccessful. The twist is, he is a great teacher who ultimately wants to make his students successful. My one complaint in this volume is that we don't get to know any of the characters all that well, as each chapter is centered around a different student. I'd like to see one or two maim characters, and then add supporting characters along the way. I'll definitely keep reading though!

This is my first foray into the world of manga. I have watched quite a bit of popular and some not so popular. I have read some American comics as well. But I do not consider myself neither an anime fan nor fan of comic books. With this series, though, I can totally see myself becoming a manga fan. I can't remember how I happened across Assassination Classroom. I can't say for sure what made me consider spending the $5 or so on the Kindle edition. I downloaded a sample, which was only first couple of pages, not enough to provide any plot whatsoever. The only thought I had was "this looks odd," and made the purchase. I hadn't even heard of the anime series or the live action movies. I'm glad I decided to randomly purchase this first volume. It is odd, to say the very least, but it's also funny. It doesn't give away all of its secrets in the beginning, but it doesn't keep everything unanswered, either. My only worry is the length of the series as a whole. I have purchased the second volume and plan on reading on until I get bored with it. I'm giving it 5 stars, simply because this is my first manga I've read, and I loved it. I'm sure there are others out there that are better, but until I find them, I'll stick with this rating.

Reminds me of danganronpa with that bear thing - like the supernatural enemy but acts like your best friend. It’s cute and interesting :)

A zany series about an other-worldly teacher who has one wish before he destroys the world, to teach a high school class and giving them the almost impossible challenge of killing him to prevent their inevitable doom. When he first arrives to class 3-E at Kunugigaoka high he seems like this terrible guy but the students soon learn that he really cares. Later in the series you begin to learn his twisted backstory and why he does what he does. The main characters include Nagisa, an outcast, runt, who never was that popular but has a true talent for assassination, and Karmisa, a cynical student hellbent on killing their teacher. Sadly, most of the side characters are slightly one sided and don't have any development throughout the story. This is a light hearted manga with some great gags and interesting characters. I recommend it to any anime or manga fan but not for beginners.

Amazing! I love the octopus character displayed on the cover, "Koro Sensei", and the manga was very interesting to read. It was very funny in an unexpected way, and I got instantly attached to the surprisingly sweet and caring Koro Sensei. Nothing much happened in the story so far, but the plot continued to thicken at a good pace. The book looks slightly used, a little bit dented and with a piece coming off on the side, but it was minor and in my eyes forgiveable despite usually being a perfectionist. But all in all, looking like it could be one of my favourite mangas. Definitely looking forward to more!
