Safest shoes to prevent falls and enhance self defense
#3 of the three below-listed Whitin shoes. These are the safest seniors’ shoes I’ve ever worn! Its feet-to-ground-sensitivity, the resulting enhanced posture alignment, the stretch of calf and thigh, the tighter shoe-to-foot encasement; all these features combined make this a rare shoe for seniors’ fall prevention or self defense. As I’ve grown older, my legs weakened, worsening bad posture and muscle-tightening. Though marketed for athletic purposes, below Whitins help with body’s reactions to weaker legs and will likely help prevent falls. How Whitin does this are:1. Enhanced foot sensitivity to ground by:Flat shoe so that the entire foot feels the ground. Inclined shoes feels moreso on the front part of foot, reducing back of foot’s role in balancing. Its thin shoe sole that compresses, yet is not too stiff (ouch) or soft (wobbly). This thin sole further helps with the above ground sensitivity feature.Flat shoe, instead of inclined shoes that facilitates body’s balancing2. Wider front part of shoe.. As we grow older, feet tend to spread out, creating wider front part of foot. The wider design here enable for tighter foot-shoe encasement, so that the shoe and foot better operate as one unit, when balancing on irregular surfaces.3. Excellent grip soles.4. Flat footbed continually stretches tightened calf and back of thigh. Muscle stiffness cause slower-response, leading to falls.4. Flat shoe that allows for natural postural balancing.6. Light in weight.7. Sole bends easily– reduces foot fatigueWhat if I had to run to escape or defend from attack? In other shoes, I fear slippage or insufficient leg power. Not with these Whitins.Comes with far better-than-average, rubbery, ⅛ inch thick insole. Removed these and used instead arched insoles. Would I use Whitins for running? Unlikely, because, inclined athletic shoes usually have more sole cushioning to protect knees against pounding cement.Whitin has several models of confusing-same-named “barefoot, wide-toe shoes.” It would be great, if Whitin gives a model name to these. Below compares the ones I’ve tried.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C73BLDFH Its mesh is more insulated, warmer, and this shoe is more useful in cooler weather.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08J7YDBR7 has extensive mesh and is the most breathable. Best for hot weather.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DJQSTJMR has an unusual breathable fabric that’s almost as cool as mesh, and has velcro-clasp that saves time in putting on shoes. In the past 10 years, I’ve purchased over 50 pairs of shoes, trying to find a decent pair for my wide, irregular feet. These are the best, by far, when personal safety is involved and one’s legs have weakened.

Ankle reconstructive surgery approved!
Wonderful! I’ve had two ankle reconstructions due to EDS, as well as plantar fasciitis and flat feet. These shoes have been a blessing. Really helps relieve pain and allows my feet to have natural movement and stability. It feels like walking on a cloud. I even bought a pair to wear around the house as well.My feet are very narrow but they still fit like dream! They also work for wide feet as well! I bought my Mom a pair, who has wide feet with severe bunions, and loves them.Highly recommend.Side note: I do like this design better than the ones without the strapping on the side.

Excellent shoes at the $30-$40 price range
Love these shoes for the price point. I can always find someone to pick about with shoes, so don't let the minus 1 start fool youI picked up my 1st pair of Whitin's just over a year ago and I still wear them. Just before that I started with another even cheaper version from another manufacturer. For the price point, I didn't know if you can get better, but yes you can get better.Pros:• durable enough to wear daily for a year+ and not wear out• inexpensive• very comfortable• true to size• all the normal barefoot benefitsCons:• they come with a minimally raised heel insole, hence not true zero drop, but close. Regardless, I prefer thinner and zero drop, so I take them out and put in a cheap pair of cotton or other barefoot style insole. I really wish they would come up with a version with thinner zero drop insoles, as it would probably save them and me money.• I'd love to see a puncture proof sole. I've never puncture these yet, but I am confident they're not puncture proof.• I would love it if they improved the inner lining beneath the insole. I often would just like to have no insole at all, but the stitching and materials inside, while useable, are clearly not intended for this purpose, leaving room for improvement. All in all, I would and have recommended these to many. For this price, you should say least try out barefoot shoes, and the "beginner insoles" they come with might be a pro for you if you're new to this style. I've purchased 4 total now, when I find them on sale for even better price points, 1 for my wife 1 for keeping a clean pair, and for when I wear out my original pair.I will buy again, but I also may look for an upgrade to these if they don't have newer options when my next time for replacement comes.

Minimalist Barefoot Shoes
I do not often give reviews, my compliments usually results in purchasing the item again. My complaints often are in the return. These shoes are amazing.!!! They thought of some little things on a minimalist shoe, such as shoe strings that don’t have to be tied, or a tongue that doesn’t fall down into the shoe. And they’re awfully darn comfortable.

Don't hesitate!
These shoes are legit! I walk a lot of rivers and banks looking for arrowheads and was looking for a good water shoe, and I found them! I've had them a year now, and probably wore them 15 times, and so far they are holding up great! I put these things through rugged terrain too! Always wash out and let dry when I get home. Great shoes!
