How long do batteries last?
Advice on false alarms? Goes off every week or so. It's in our kitchen/living room, but goes off even when we are not cooking. Goes 1 min then stops..
I have these througout my house and rental unit. Installed them about 7 years ago and many malfunctioning. Any durability mprovments since 7 yrs ago?
Can the voice part not be used (says programmable)? alarm/beep only?

Good Unit, Well Known Brand
I really like that this smoke detector includes Carbon Monoxide (CO) detection with it. The upside of this is that in replacing an old smoke detector, I now have extra protection against CO leaks. The downside of this is that this unit only lasts for approximately 7 years according to the user manual included with the unit. At roughly 7 years (which I assume is roughly as the unit does not have a precise time keeping setup), the detector will beep at your continuously until you replace it. Note that according to the user manual, you can silence this "End of Life" alarm for 2 days by pressing the button on the unit. So, you could continue using it so long as you tell it to be quiet every two days by pushing its buttons (pun intended). However, the "End of Life" alarm exists for a reason, and as many reviewers (and question answerers) on Amazon have noted, the CO detection functionality will have deteriorated such that you really need a new alarm.The quality of the unit seems good. It is made out of plastic, but seemly high quality and durable plastic. There is a mounting plate (also plastic) that you screw into a wall or ceiling and then the detector unit goes into that mounting plate and locks with a quarter turn. The test alarm sounds loud (which is a good thing for deep sleepers), and the use of AA batteries is a refreshing change. I hated buying 9V batteries just for the smoke detector.It is important to note that I did not evaluate the sensitivity of the CO detector nor experienced a smoky fire (or any fire), so this review assumes both of those listed functions would work properly. Also, I have only owned the product for ~ 1 month so I cannot comment on the reliability or lifespan of its operation. I can testify that I replaced a 30+ year old First Alert smoke detector that was (as far as I know from burning things in the kitchen) still working so I do have high confidence in their brand. I only replaced the old detector for a combination of two reasons: (1) I wanted CO detection and (2) the old one's plastic was yellowing. I think it is also important to point out (although it is well mentioned in the product page) that this detector is NOT for new-er construction homes that have interconnected smoke detectors (i.e. if your smoke detector has a plug in the ceiling that it plugs into).

So far, so good!
I had a $120 Google Nest Protect previously and it malfunctioned and I believe requires a good wifi connection to really work properly. I wanted something simple and reliable so switched to the this First Protect. So far so good. No false alarms yet and installation was straightforward. They even included drywall anchors, something that was not even included with the Nest Protect. Just drill a 3/16 hole and then lightly hammer the drywall anchors in, then screw the mounting bracket in to the anchors using a phillips screwdriver.You can also rotate the First Alert in it's mounting bracket so that the words line up exactly how you like them. No one likes a smoke detector mounted on the wall with the lettering skewed or upside down. You do not have to screw the unit on the mount all the way in order for it to be secure.The features are simple and to the point, just write down in your smartphone or wherever what the different beeps mean because you will probably forget later on. There are only a few different beep sequences so it's not overly complicated but you will want to know for example when it's telling you the battery needs replacement vs. when it's at the end of it's life cycle.This is an inexpensive, simple and relatively attractive unit, although I really wish smoke detector companies would put more effort in to beautiful designs. That's one of the things I like better about the Nest Protect.

Die Produktqualität ist hervorragend. Genau das, was ich für meine Arbeit brauchte.
Carbon monoxide (CO) is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America, yet many people don't know they are suffering from CO poisoning until it's too late. Since symptoms of CO poisoning are like the flu, you might not even know you're in danger at first. That's why a carbon monoxide alarm is an excellent way to protect your family. It can detect the CO you can't see, smell or taste in the air. One convenient alarm helps protect against two deadly household threats. Includes a voice alarm with location, when programmed, voice tells you location of unit if smoke or carbon monoxide is detected.

It says 7 year warranty on this unit, so I'll see. Many CO detectors are only 5 yrs, but you can find higher quality ones (not avail on Amazon) that are good for 10 yrs and have dual sealed non-replaceable batteries (so install and forget for a decade). I bought this because it does both CO & smoke. I have a CO detector by our bedrooms that displays CO readings in real time above 11ppm, which is superior to this. Even low levels of CO is hazardous, and govt regs specify an alarm to sound only if >30ppm, not lower levels."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"Can the voice part not be used (says programmable)? alarm/beep only?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"I really wish it were. I literally threw mine down the street at 3am after it went off for no reason the 4th night in a row."}}]}]}
