Texan Classics Gun Metal Wedge (Set of 3 52, 56, 60)

How often do you see a matched set of wedges for under $50? You probably think they would be junk, nothing more than Goodwill or garage sale clubs. You would be wrong.One caveat. The grips are TERRIBLE. You need to be ready to change out the grips immediately. I put on my iron standard for my arthritic hands, Lamkin 1/8" oversized. Available on Amazon. Turned these clubs into birdie machines.Pros:1. Square grooves. I know, they are technically illegal. Are you playing on the PGA tour? Do your buddies check your clubs before your $2.00 Nassau's? I didn't think so. Take the extra backspin and be happy. Yes, you might see a few very minor slices on your balls when you backspin a ball three feet after hitting it long. Get over it... Remember that new one you put into the woods? You can still play the slightly cut one....2. Black paint is dead flat on the face. This also helps the ball get up and spin backward.3. Shafts are R flex, maybe even a Senior flex. Who knows, they don't say. All I know is they flex like they are somewhere in-between regular and senior, making them OUTSTANDING for amateurs, seniors, and ladies!4. Face size is about perfect for the amateur.Cons:1. Bounce? Who knows. Bounce is the angle between the sole line and the ground at address. These lie pretty flat on the ground. Looks to be very low, maybe only 2 or 3'. What this means is the sole of the club is fairly flat. That is alright as long as you know it, and realize this will hog down when you cut through deep grass, and they will take more sand coming out of a trap. Both those scenarios cause the club head to slow down. Play accordingly.2. Black paint will wear off rather rapidly. Are you one of those players who use a lot of club covers and try to keep your clubs really nice all the time? These are not for you. I use club covers, but only on those clubs I pay a LOT of money for. These do not qualify. And the removal of the paint will NOT affect the action of the groves or the face.3. As I said earlier, the grips may be the worst I've seen in a while. I do a fair amount of re-gripping for myself and friends, and to be honest, these just are terrible. Once I got the Lamkins on, Whooeee!!4. "Forged Feel" What does that really mean? Well, these are cast metal clubs, (much cheaper to make), than fire forged clubs like the $100 wedges that actually say "Forged" on the hosel. This only makes a difference if you like to hit your club against tree trunks, slam them down into the ground, or do other nasty things that might break normal metal. For the amateur, the cast vs. forged difference is not even a factor with the short distances required of these clubs.Conclusion: HUGE bargain for what you get, as long as you realize you have to re-grip them. Nice length, balanced set, with a slight heaviness in the head which will only help you get through the ball and complete the shot. A bargain I would buy again and again. No wonder they have been selling them for a few years, when other clubs come and go in less than 18 months.

I thought these were supposed to make me tiger woods in 2001. Manufacturer gotta step up their game, its not my swing thats the problem its these clubs. Im just kidding they are very solid wedges for starting out and once you get comfortable with them they are pretty decent. Black finish will wear off but its cosmetic, who cares, only thing is distance control and the leading edge is a bit hard to find at times, leading to chunking or thinning. Might just be me cuz i suck but overall if u want cheap wedges that get the job done just click buy and stop being a bozo, you probably already looked at these 300 times and not clicking buy wont get them to your doorstep.

After playing the local course more often, it became apparant that I needed a 52 gap wedge to fill in after my pitching wedge. My 56 sand wedge was getting pretty tired, so I figured to give a cheap set a shot and replace a few clubs in the bag.As others have said the clubheads are definitely a tad heavier than other clubs ive bagged before, but the extra weight seems to help keep the club under the ball if you happen to hit grass before ball. I enjoy the extra weight and feel confident with a bit more heft, especially in bunkers.The grips actually arent bad, and grip really well. I think its the material that everyone complains about, as they are definitely cheaper knockoff grips. But with one hand wearing a glove and the other hand halfway wrapped around the first, I can't feel any difference from my other grips when I swing. I cannot attest to how well they work in wet conditions.The only thing I was let down with was the seemingly similar bounce angle on all 3 clubs. I was hoping the 60 would have a sharper angle than the rest but its pretty blunt. I guess this is where the extra weight comes in handy.The wedges do give the ball a fair amount of spin, but I think I can still spin the ball more with my 64 though. I havent had any ball material getting cut or grazed off by the grooves like others have said.UPDATE: Nevermind, this thing SHREDS range balls like nothing else! Took 5 full shots and had to clean the face off! Tons of little ball scraps.All in all, GREAT wedges for the price, $50 for 3! With high performance golf balls going for $40+ a dozen, this is WELL worth the price of improving your short game and having some great looking clubs to show for it. If you have the regular few errant shots like me, you'll appreciate having some beater wedges to chip from the cart path instead of that $150 Vokey your buddy has.

To be honest, I wasn't expecting a whole lot from these clubs, especially given the price. I needed something to fill some holes in my bag, and these fit the bill.Aesthetically, the clubs are great, however as mentioned in some of the previous reviews, the black does wear off, and fairly quickly at that. This of course, doesn't affect the playability of the clubs, but it might bother some people.On the course the clubs perform just like wedges. They are a little heavier than most wedges I've played with, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Personally, I really enjoy the way they feel, especially on those short chip or flop shots. The weight really encourages you to let your swing do the work and not try to muscle it.The only thing that I'm not crazy about is the grips on these. They're very hard, and get slippery when wet. This is really a preference things, but coming from Golf Pride Decade Multi-Compound 0.580 Red Ribbed Grip, they just don't stack up. Given the value of these clubs, and since this is a preference, like I mentioned, I can't hit them when it comes to the rating.Overall, I highly recommend these clubs to anyone that is looking for an inexpensive wedge set to fill out their bag!
