My dog immediately starts rolling around, rubbing her face on everything when she has this on. She has managed to rip the Velcro strip off and get grass or string on it. However, if your more diligent than I am at cleaning the Velcro strip when dirty, it will only happen during vigorous rubbing, otherwise it should stay on pretty securely.

Hello! If the muzzle fits correctly and it is tightened from the buckles and not the velcro (the velcro is there only to keep excess strap from hanging loose), then it will prevent biting. You need to find the perfect level of tightness by adjusting the muzzle yourself. Also, attach the muzzle to the extra neck collar to prevent it from being pawed off. The problem is, that American Bulldogs may have too short snouts for the muzzle. If the snout is short, the muzzle can not be fitted properly and can be easily pawed off. It all depends on the individual dog. You can measure the distance between your dog's eyes and nose and if it is shorter than 2 inches, then I do not recommend trying this muzzle, because for large dogs with short snouts, it probably will not fit.
