Q: How does this help if the air outlet has no filter?

The outlet has a piece of material that acts as a check valve so it seals as you inhale. I tested mine prior to use by putting my hands over the filters to see if it leaked. It did not, the mask sealed tight and pulled closer to my face with a slight vacuum as I inhaled with the filters covered.
