More than the N10’s Little Brother
Hongdian makes fine piston filler pens. The N10 is an excellent pen to showcase the number 8 nib. But some pen owners want the convenience of a cartridge or converter to hold ink. The Hongdian A9 has all the attention to detail of the N10 with the wonderful number 8 nib. The fit and finish is excellent. The trim and attention to detail equals that of a pen costing four times (4x) as much. The springy clip easily slides into a shirt pocket. The cap is triple-threaded and comes off in 1 3/4 rotations. Due to the triple thread, the designs line up on one of three tries. The number 8 nib looks at home on this pen. It is a smooth wet writer with a hint of feedback. This pen does have a sweet spot, but with use it should tune itself to your writing style. Micromesh is not necessary, so do it at your own risk. The ebonite feed is a nice touch and does an excellent job delivering ink. The Fine nib lays down a 0.5mm line both horizontally and vertically. The pen case is a Pilot-style metal box. When gift wrapped it makes a good gift box. Included is a piston wrench. This pen is a fine writer and a showpiece.

Love the #8 nib!
Love love love this pen. I have cheaper pens and much more expensive pens and this pen performs very well. I love the #8 nib that works so well with my beloved shading inks. Good size, good weight, and a terrific steel nib. I have Pilot Iroshizuku tsuki-yo in my blue one and Noodler's Southwest Sunset in my orange one. Give them a try!

Ebonite feed and huge #8 nib
At this time, I thinks this is the best buy in inexpensive pens. The finish is beautiful, and then there's the nib and feed.

A great alternative to the N10.
The A9 is a great alternative to the N10. It is a cartridge/converter, not a piston filler.. The section is resin, not metal. The N10 section is metal and slippery. The N10 can be difficult to maintain. The piston is difficult to remove. You need a special tool to remove the piston. The disadvantage to the A9 is the capacity of the converter which to me is small. But if you like to change inks regularly, this may be easier than a piston filler. Converters are easy to clean. The nib on the A9 is wonderful. It is somewhat soft and responds very nicely.

Another Great Pen From Hongdian
I just received and reviewed this pen. It's a solid offering from Hongdian and it has an attractive moire finish. The nib has some spring to it and some line variation is possible. The fine nib writes smoothly but with some feedback that's reminiscent of a Sailor pen. I don't know why this pen wasn't offered with a wider nib selection. I'd have liked a medium nib. The N8 came with a medium nib option, so I know Hongdian can do this. My only cons are the small converter and I was disconcerted by how dark colored the blue pen is. There's nothing wrong with it. I was just expecting a blue color more in line with the N10.
