No ,you type your custom words. Be careful though mine took up two lines and the manufacturer put them on backwards. I am still waiting for a replacement.

Q: Can i have text on the back as well as the front

Q: How many lines of text do you get, 2 or 3? Hat in ad seems to imply 3 but I don't know if they're counting the very top line.

Only 2 lines. You have different font and color options. My hat turned out great.
