Literally the worst scanner ever built
Instead of building a precision roller system to move each sheet of paper in, this scanner uses a straight vertical drop gravity-feed, in order to minimize its desk space usage. You don't see this on other scanners because it doesn't work. It generates double-feeds constantly. Especially if you don't take the roller out and clean it with rubbing alcohol after every 20 pages. Basically this scanner works only as a manually-fed scanner; the auto-feed won't work at all if you put more than 20 sheets in, and barely works in any case. This scanner is useful only for somebody who wants to scan a letter in now and then and doesn't want the scanner to take up desktop space. The $600 price is outrageous.

Excellent and simple to use.
This scanner works great for our office. We don't do high volume, but once installed it is very straight forward and efficient. My assistant installed it so I cannot speak to the software, but I enjoy using it.

Hardware good, software bad.
I have owned my 2050C for about 3 weeks. Whilst it has integrated quite well into my offices, it did take a 5 hours of frustration, an email to tech support, a 2 day wait for a reply, and a download of the latest CapturePerfect (3.0.30 iirc) to get multipage documents batching to pdf's without a consistent lockup on or about the 3rd document.I would have expected this very straightforward feature, which is heavily promoted in the product advertising, would be working out of the box (i.e. off the provided CD) for $500.Happy to have it functional now, but I suggest you email tech support for the latest CapturePerfect and bin the included CD.

Love the machine, but don't drop it--UPDATE
Love the machine. Makes great scans. Software easy to use. Very fast for the price. But it's made of cheap plastic. Needs careful handling. Not something the kids can use.UPDATE--1 Year of moderate use (a couple of hours per week) and I have one problem. The paper hangs coming out of the scanner, so the bottom scan of some pages is not in focus. I've tried putting the scanner on the edge of the desk so the paper falls right into the garbage can, and it still has this problem. I've cleaned the rollers. I found a roll kit replacement on E-Bay, but I'm not sure that will solve the problem. And the kit costs $35 plus shipping. So, I'm not sure if I want to start throwing money on a used machine or cough up money for a newer machine. Will have to see.

Scanner works GREAT (duplex color, too)!
The scanner was well packed, No burned out scanning pixels (e.g., no lines in the scans). It works GREAT!AND, we did not notice it, but two small plastic parts (paper guides) had been left out of the box, and without us even mentioning it to the seller, they sent them to us with an apology a few days later! VERY IMPRESSIVE SERVICE! Thank you very much.Richard

Great Product -- Way Too Expensive
I have tracked this product for a long time, including its earlier siblings (a SCSI version, and then a USB/SCSI version, and now a USB only version). The main problem with the product is that Canon has not dropped the price for many years. It has always cost $500-$700 on the street, and the only modifications that Canon has made have to do with the data interface. Considering that laptop computers can now be purchased for the same price as this scanner, the product is just way too overpriced at this point.
