You could use it on a 5 yrs old. I don't believe they will be able to handle inhaleing while swabing for the best results.

Q: Does zimcam prevent the nose from running

I purchased the Zicam to stop my nose from running but it didn't work for that. My nose felt a little clearer but it didn't do what I wanted. I tried the Zicam because my sister uses it and it does stop her running nose for a few hours. So, I guess it works differently for different people.
