This is a review for the Ethique Gentle Unscented Shampoo Bar with Cocoa Butter. There are reviews for other Ethique shampoo bars here as well so I wanted to be clear.After deciding to reduce my use of plastic bottles, I started trying out solid shampoo and conditioner products. I tried a few different brands before deciding to try Ethique and I started with the St. Clements for oily hair. I've had an oily scalp and skin since puberty, but now I'm much older and am also growing my hair out, so the oiliness is all at the top of my scalp. As beauty experts tell us, stripping all oils just makes your body produce more, so I've been looking for a shampoo that doesn't do that. Unfortunately, the Ethique St. Clements dried my hair and scalp out severely to the point where my scalp itched all the time and the returning oils made my hair greasy again really fast, especially at the front where I'm growing out my bangs.It was frustrating to throw out a barely used bar of expensive shampoo, but I did it and bought the Ethique Gentle bar in the new quarter moon shape because my scalp was so, so unhappy. During my first shampoo with it, I could feel my scalp relaxing and my hair felt soft instead of "squeaky clean" (i.e. rough and dry). Combing out my wet hair was easy without using a conditioner and my dry hair was much softer than it had been. The quarter moon shape of the bar was also much easier to use than the square shape and washing my hair was all around more pleasant. But the true test came after several days when my scalp no longer itched and didn't produce a lot of oil. The hair at the top of my scalp was still fluffy and not oily after several days. I've only washed my hair twice so far with the Gentle bar, but the difference is huge. What a relief!It would be awfully nice if Ethique made travel/sample size bars of shampoo so we could test out different types without spending a bunch of money and maybe wasting product. I'm pretty sure a box of all the types in a small size would be a worthwhile product - friends could even share a box during their hunt for the shampoo that works best for them.

I was very skeptical of using shampoo and conditioner in the form of a bar. However, I had heard a lot of good things about the quality of Ethique and decided to give it a go since I've been on a journey to find shampoo and conditioner that works for me. Needless to say, I am beyond happy that I purchased these products!! They smell sooo good (almost like Sweet Tarts even though the packaging says it's suppose to be sparkling pear) and the shampoo lathers very well with only about 4 swipes of the bar on my wet hair. The conditioner also has a surprising amount of slip, though it takes a moment for it to start working (I combat this by applying it as evenly as possible and then clipping my hair up with a claw clip as I finish the rest of my shower and rinse only before getting out). It's worth noting that I have very fine, dry hair with varied textures between straight and wavy. I also have a very sensitive scalp. Given that, I find that this product truly does hydrate my hair and leave it soft and shiny without weighing it down and it also hasn't made my scalp itch at all. I am completely sold. My hair has never felt or looked better. I highly recommend this purchase and I myself will now be a loyal costumer so long as this line doesn't get discontinued! (P.S. if you like to avoid coconut oil like I do, this specific shampoo and conditioner combo does not contain it).

I’ve been using this set for a couple of years now so I figured it time for a review. My hair is naturally thick with a wavy pattern. These solid shampoo and conditioner bars make my hair look like the Garnier Fructis commercials from back in the day; super soft and shiny, WITHOUT any leave in conditioner or additional styling products (the extra products will make most hair dirtier faster) . I use the TYMO ionic straightening brush for straight hair days, and the wash lasts for about 4-5 days before I notice oil. With dry shampoo I can manage to make it about a week without rewashing. If I leave my hair wavy/curly I get about 3-4 good days before my curl pattern flattens out and I get oily scalp. The scent is very very mild, which is good for sensitive noses. The conditioner runs out way faster than the shampoo so I usually keep an extra conditioner in my cabinet. The shampoo tends to last me several months though, which is nice. Hair fallout is very minimal, and my hair has become very strong over the years using this product.I’ll attach some recent photos that show my hair a couple days after wash.

I like the formula and scent of this product. I have been using Ethique bar shampoo and conditioner for a few years now. It definetly has saved how much product I'm using. Makes my hair feel clean. I'm gonna keep using this product too. The new moon shape is really cute too instead if just the square shape. But also that mean more packaging instead of just the square packaging. *shrugs*Amazing product! Will continue to buy the hair products from this company!

I had used bar shampoo from ethique years ago and somehow ended up on bottle shampoo for the last 3. I can’t believe I didn’t switch back sooner. I’ve washed my hair about 3 times since I purchased this and I can see and feel the difference. My hair is so soft AND my scalp has stopped itching. I have straight medium-thickness hair and was using Love Beauty and Planet, but would have my hair be greasy the NEXT DAY after washing with that brand. Now, I can go 2-3 days before using dry shampoo. My hair just feels good and I feel better about my hair. I would highly recommend the calming bar shampoo for those of you with dry scalps. 10/10 will purchase again (but hopefully it’ll last awhile!).
