to get the light to change from red (that's when you need to change the filter)PRESS and hold the button for about 10-12 seconds and it will go blank and when you refill the jug just por out some water and you will see a green light slowly illuminating that is telling you water is pure and you have around 28 days before resetting again. that's how it should work let me know

Go to www.brita.co.uk and register your product. Brita water jugs should come with 2 years free parts replacement service. Registering takes that to 3 years. Put in a claim for the missing part. Job done! Put a like if this comment has helped you.

Q: Is it ok to fill the jug up past the bottom of the filter cartridge?

This is VERY confusing and the Brita instructions, photos & diagrams are TOTALLY confusing and TOTALLY contradictory. Why don't Brita CLEARLY explain:- a) Can the filter sit in the already-filtered water or not? (It seems odd if it can but maybe they've invented a 'clever' filter?) b) What is the significance go Brita's "1.4l of filtered water" claim? 1.4l means the (dirty) filter is sitting in the already-filtered water. So if this is in fact ok, why only 1.4l? Why not fill it to the top? It's all CHAOS, Brita!
