RHS Botany for Gardeners: The Art and Science of Gardening Explained & Explored

A really accessible, well-written study aid
I've gone back to college as a mature student to study horticulture and I've sourced a range of different reading materials to support my course- particularly the plant science elements of it. Some I've not gotten along with particularly well as they're *too* bogged down in scientific information and overly complex, assuming the reader has more than a basic understanding of cells/plants/plant functions etc. I genuinely didn't think the plant science information was going to stick in my brain AT ALL.Happy to say that this book is different- it's written in an engaging way and has really useful information about famous botanists too, to break up some of the more technical/complex chapters, which I found interesting. The plant science aspects are actually understandable for someone like me, who passed GCSE science over 20 years ago!Going to give this one a couple more re-reads before my theory exams. Would recommend to gardeners who want to know more about plants generally, and definitely to fellow horticultural students!

Book of my dreams!
I haven't read it yet, but I love so much about this book! A beautiful cover, traditional vintage style illustrations, it's full of information and looks great as a coffee table book. Perfect for my cottage style home. I couldn't be happier...and yes, this is a bit of a rave review, but it is just so lovely! It's the quality of old fashioned books, will last for years and be a great point of information and enjoyable browsing. Perfect as a gift...to yourself or (if you actually can part with it!), friends and family.

Comprehensive but could do with more pictures
Interesting and informative both for the hobby and professional gardner and as a study guide. I am studying for the RHS Level 2 qualification in Horticulture and this book has provided some great insights as one of the recommended books for the course. My only criticism, and it is a slight one, is that there could be a few more pictures or illustrations relating to the subject matter described. Overall though a great read which has allowed me to expand my knowledge enormously.

The most beautiful book I own
The book is quite informative with lots of science involved but it does explain things well helping me understandThe pages are extraordinarily beautiful and it is small enough to hold comfortably and look stunning on a book shelfThe book is great for any enthusiastic gardener looking for more detail as to 'why' and not 'how'

A fantastic book - I could not recommend highly enough!
I am currently studying the Level 2 RHS Diploma in the Principles and Practices of Horticulture and I can honestly say that out of all of my study books - 'RHS Botany for Gardeners' has helped me with my learning and general know-how of horticulture TREMENDOUSLY! It is presented beautifully with clear diagrams and pictures of flowers (Latin and English names provided). The content and text is also very clear and concise making plant biology topics much more easier to digest. It's a great size, not too big, which is really helpful for reading 'on the go' and the price is incredibly fair considering how many topics this book covers. I have been recommending this book to all of my class mates and I'd say that even if you aren't studying for a formal qualification in Hort - I would highly recommend it for any enthusiastic gardener who is keen on brushing up their plant knowledge/practical skills too!

Fabulous!
This is a beautiful and informative book. The quality of the cover and inside pages is high and the information it contains is laid out so that it is clear and easy to understand. It's perfect for those studying RHS 2 or equivalent, but also for gardeners wanting to understand a bit more about plant science. I read it cover to cover, but it's great to leave on display and dip in to. I think it would make a lovely gift for gardeners. I love it!
