Q: Can i use a hob filter for this?

Yes. You might have trouble putting the lid on if you put the filter on the back of the tank. You might have to put it on your side.

Q: are the clips for the glass cover made out of plastic or metal? I am looking to make it a brackish tank and I am afraid metal may rust from salt.Thx

They are plastic. All together this would make a wonderful brackish tank.

Q: Is this a saltwater tank?

With the gear that comes with the glass aquarium, I believe the intended use is for freshwater inhabitants.

Q: Is the light dimmable?

No.. It's off or no. Pretty bright.
