Q: Do the green pieces come off easily and make a mess or stay attached for the most part?

They stay attached - it's a small tabletop tree that I just store "as is" in the box it came in.

Q: How many lights are on the tree?

I don't really remember but, don't waste your money. It's a piece of junk. I've purchased 2 different trees, this one and one similiar and neither had ANY quality whatsoever. Typical Chinese junk!!

Q: Just received the tree and nothing else came in the box- BUT instructions mention a ‘foot switch’ to control lighting pattern, anyone else???

This tree does not come with a foot switch control. It has clear white lights.

Q: Are the branches strong enough to hold most regular type of bulb or novelty ornaments?

These Branches are Super Strong and can hold most any Ornament !
