Q: Can it fit a water reservoir? Say from camelbak

Thank you for reaching out! You might be able to fit a hydration reservoir in the padded backpack sleeve of the Thule Subterra, but it does not have a purpose-built port for the hose to escape. Most of Thule's hiking backpacks are hydration-reservoir compatible. Please take a look and see if any of those meet your needs!

Q: Is there room for a pair of men running shoes?

Yes, if neatly and alternately stacked on the bottom.

Q: Will this fit under an airplane seat? Are things as secure w/magnetic closure as with zipper? Thanks!

Yes. It is air cabin friendly. The top closure is a magnetic strip that, on top, you also fold and use the clickies on the side to snap and secure. It is very hard for anyone to open with one maneuver; unlike zippers which takes just one zip. All other compartments do have zippers. I bought the burgundy colored one which is outstanding. Q: Can the zippers on this bag be locked if needed to with locks?

Yes, use a small luggage lock. However the main bag cant be, just the front pocket.
