Q: I like to read lying in bed; does stand work if you position the Kindle sideways (so if I'm lying horizontally, can you set the stand on its side?)

Potentially yes. The kickstand works fine on any stable hard surface like a desk or tabletop. But depending on your bed terrain, it's not the most robust arrangement since the stand design depends on a short length of ribbon to remain taut.

Q: Does this case make it harder to accidentally turn off the kindle? I hate how easy it is to accidentally hit the power button.

Yes it does. The edges of the case stick out so the button is recessed about 1/4 of an inch. There's a magnet in the case that turns on the Kindle on when you open it and makes it sleep when you close it, so I rarely use the power button now. Overall, the quality of the case is first rate too.

Q: Are the corners protected incase I drop the Kindle?

The case is larger than the Kindle, it extends past the Kindle all around, so it would seem to provide plenty of protection

Q: Can the finger strap move to the opposite side so the left hand alone can hold the device?

It is designed to be held by the left hand. When you fold back the cover, insert your left hand from the right side through the strap to grip the Kindle, turn over, and you're ready to read. I was unable to attach a video.
