A good set if your child already has some interest in chemistry or you think they might if they knew what it was. This will require some adult supervision and some (not all) require addtional common household materials such as vinegar, baking soda, dish soap. but nothing unusual. The experiements take a 5 - 15 minutes to setup and if you want your child to know what is actually happening a what chemical reactions are causing the effects observed there will be a few pages of reading that explain it. This is great for a child that has that interest and is willing to work though the steps. However, if your child has a very sort attention span or just wants instant gratification then a chemistry set is probably not going to provide them much fun and will just frustrate you as the parent.

There are some fun experiments, though there are more "suggestions" on science activities such as a periodic table scavenger hunt. 8 year old can not do any of the experiments on his own.

I didn't like the fact that most of the experiments couldn't be done by the child by themselves. I dont think they were able to understand too much of what was going on.

Just in the house for a day, but the 9-year-old already finished 3 experiments on his own. Provides a great opportunity teachable moment for cleaning up after themselves!

Not what I was expecting. It's not a bad kit but for the amount they charge I was expecting something a little nicer. I got it for my 8 year old and she enjoys it but had I seen this on the shelf for $60 in a store I probably wouldn't have bought it. I like the kit, I just don't think it's worth what they're charging for it.
