Q: Can you leave the sliding sheet underneath the person sitting in the recliner

You can really slide with this sheet. If your person is still too weak to hold himself up then I wouldn't risk it, esp when you change the recliner to an upright position, when the person sits up straight, they could slide right out of the chair, and it can happen faster then you think. This sheet is used best for when the person is lying down and you need to move them around on the bed, or even getting in and out of a car, it helps to move the legs inside and out of the car.

Q: is this machine washable, and if so how many washes. some of these I've purchased stop sliding after a wash

It is washable! I usually air dry, as this product dries quickly.

Q: What type of fabric is this?

It is a nylon I think. Very slippery, works well to just move in the bed...my husband has a hard time turning over, and this helps.

It's pretty much a single bed size, maybe a wee bigger.
