No to special water heater. No, this does not use any more water than 2.2 gpm limit found in most States & municipalities throughout US. 8L/min is easily serviced by most tankless units. If you have tank style heater, set to 125-130F, a 40gal tank heater will provide 30 minutes of continuous warm shower, unless you’re running extraordinary hot shower and/or running other hot water consuming appliances
