Why Do I Need A Power Conditioner?
Look at the attached picture showing the voltage monitoring at my household--it is consistently about 124 volts. (FYI If you have an older home it's a good idea to monitor the voltage in your home due to fire risk from overloaded wiring--search for the plug in appliance on the internet--starts with Ti). While 124 volts is within the acceptable range, prolonged operation at the upper end of the voltage range (closer to 125 volts) might cause some appliances to operate at a higher power level than intended. If you value your high-priced equipment like big TV, Mac/HP computer and monitors, and audio speakers, then it is recommended to buy a Furman M-8X2 that has both surge protection and power conditioning. I have about 8 of them; never had one fail!

Quality unit
I'll start this off by saying I live in a really old house, that has questionable wiring to say the least.I was having issues with a hum, and occasional pops in my audio setup. I also had a preamp fry itself recently, so I decided it was time to correct the issue. The power conditioner slotted right into my rack without any complaints, and just like that, completely solved my issues.Having a single power switch to shut off the entire rack is something I didn't know I needed. All in all, I am very satisfied with my purchase at this point in time.We will see if it stands the test of time.

SIMPLY WORKS GREAT
I do a lot of PA work at the local arts center which is prone to a lot of line interference. Did a gig tonight with this recently received Furman power conditioner and there was not a hint of buzz, hum or static. I'm convinced.

Furman M-8X2 - great basic and simple unit.
First I want to address some of the other reviews. I am not sure if they are for the Furman M-8X2 or it is a review of another Furman power supply/conditioner and they are lumped together. So what I am going to say is for the Furman M-8X2.It does NOT fix any sort of ground loop issues where there is buzz present within the grid. Example:I can plug my head/amp directly into the wall outlet and than compare - buzz wise it is the same. Of note here - single coil vs humbucker does not matter if the underlining buzz is the same. At least one review here said it eliminates things such as "pops" when light switches are turned on and off. I decided to test this and turned lights on and off that were on a different circuit - no popping. But when I did it with a light on the same circuit it did pop. This will prevent the little surges that might come though the system, but it does not fully eliminate "pops".Now that sounds negative, but it is not meant to be. I would not want someone to get this thinking it will clean up all the underlying buzzing and pops because it won't. This is not a hum eliminator, or a ground loop solver. This is for power, the source. What comes after involves something else. Keep in mind that a lot of factors come into play - a cable from an instrument can act as an antenna for example, and that will have nothing to do with any power supply or power conditioner. If you can take your cable and move it over another power source and pick up a buzz - the unit will not solve that. Also single coil pups, which already have buzz, in front of lights and other powered items - chances are there will be a LOT of buzz. If you have a non-shielded guitar cavity, or use non-shielded cables the buzz will vary - and, again, nothing to do with the power supply or power conditioner. What does the Furman M-8X2 do? It is a power conditioner and it works well. It will "clean" the incoming power and try to keep a constant outflow to whatever is plugged into it. In the case of a severe surge this will try to prevent that from getting though. As others have pointed out the built in fuse will trip and the power will shut down before damage occurs. (NOTE: I have not had this tested out and hope to never have too, but I trust in Furman that my gear will in fact be protected in case of sudden surges.) The Furman M-8X2 is a basic unit in that you simply plug into a standard wall outlet, plug things into it and turn on the units power. Basic and simple. Furman does make more advanced units with individual outlet switches, lights and power input/output readings as some of the advanced perks. If you want something like that check out the PL-PRO series, and I, personally, feel if one is bringing a rig to a lot of different venues you should get one of those anyway. But for basic home use I don't feel you can beat this for the price.

Very Good Quality
The media could not be loaded. This is A Great Surge Protector and Power Conditioner! The Cost Definitely Does Not Reflect the Quality. The Quality is Definitely That Found On “More Expensive” Versions. I Get Very Low RFI/EMI Noise If Any at All.
