The US version of this radio (sold by Amazon in the USA) is AM mode only, 40 channel FCC channels 26.965 MHz - 27.405 MHz - the manual says 26.960 MHz - 27.400 MHz but that's a misprint...the AM mode switch (which is the AM/FM mode switch on European models) is disabled on the US market version of the LT-298. In other words, it's set to AM and it doesn't matter what you set the radio to. In the manual (and online) it says to set the radio to channel 9 on the CH9/NORMAL/CH19 switch and turn the radio on to select which country/band you want. On the US market version, that feature is also disabled. It appears that the versions sold in Europe have the ability to switch bands, switch AM/FM modes and alternate between different country bands - Germany 80 channel CB (26.565 MHz - 27.405 MHz) CEPT/EU FM CB, AM/FM European mid-band 40 channel CB (same as USA band 26.965 MHz - 27.405 MHz), the Poland CB band 26.960 MHz - 27.400 MHz, PO/PL mode, India CB band 27 channel 26.965 MHz - 27.275 MHz, UK FM 27/81 CB band 27.60125 MHz - 27.99125 MHz, RU or Russian CB band 25.615 MHz - 30.105 MHz
