Q: Can a 6mm active carbon filter be used in this pipe?

It will fit the stem of the pipe, but I have found that it doesn’t have the same draw characteristic as it does while using the balsa filters.

Always twist stems to remove and install, regardless of the brand or style.

Actually nothing, filters provided are small triangular length of balsa wood design to absorb and retain excess humidity and nicotine tar. You can take out the balsa filter and use the pipe without them. If you are looking for a really awesome pipe you can't go wrong with the Tortuga.
