It works just fine for counting yeast and bacteria
It works just fine for counting yeast and bacteria, especially given the price. I knocked a star off because all the cover slips it came with are pretty dirty and have to soak for a while to clean. If you're having issues seeing the lines on the slide, turn your light down. They're pretty easy to see.

no good
can barely detect lines. Students were not able to use it. No good for teaching or for research. no good.

Very faint grid lines
The grid lines are very faint and hard to make out on this particular brand. It's hard enough to get the spores in focus without having to strain your eyes to find the grid.

Bane of my existence
1) No convenient pipette tip slit like other hemacytometers, which makes it much harder to put your sample in.2) Shifting from one grid to another puts everything out of focus- probably because the chamber itself isn't topographically even throughout.3) Because of the little dents on the corners of the chambers (there supposedly to allow you to put your sample in) ends up collecting a large amount of fluid after you put the coverslip on, which pretty much concentrates all of your cells in this uncountable corner.4) Just overall difficult to use.5) You die a little inside using this to count 40+ samples
