What, specifically, makes this urinary care? What can I use to compare this to other brands of urinary care cat food?

Hill's website gives a Phosphorus content (dry weight) of .62% which is nearly as low as the kidney prescription diet.  This is important for cats with chronic kidney disease.
The Magnesium is low at .077% which reduces the risk of urinary crystals.
The high fiber content helps pass hair and softens the stool.  Cats with kidney disease often suffer from constipation or hard dry stool.

Great question! The short answer would be that this food is not a replacement for our Prescription Diet feline c/d. The reason for this is, our feline c/d is specifically designed to address urinary issues in cats. It has a controlled mineral balance and added potassium citrate. Is the bag recyclable? Which plastic type (number) is it?

Thank you for your question. While we share your passion for recyclable packaging, maintaining the freshness and integrity of the food is our priority. At this time, our plastic bags are not recyclable. 
 
The typical recyclable plastic package is made from a single type of plastic resin. However, our plastic bags are constructed of multiple layers of plastic resins, utilized to provide the proper protection for our dry foods. These multiple layers of resins are combined in order to provide the fat and oxygen barrier, abrasion resistance, palatability protection, sealability, printing and durability needed. There is no single resin type that can meet all the functional requirements of our diets. The result of this combination is a structurally sound package that offers the best protection against spoilage.  This unique construction does limit the package recyclability, using current technology. Many types of packaged food face this same challenge. Through our core value of continuous improvement and commitment to sustainability, we constantly search for renewable sources of resins for our packaging and opportunities to use recycled content in our packaging.
