Q: Are both curtains 24 inches wide that means that there 48" inches wide together. I need 28" Hi and 30" W

each one is 24" wide, so 48 total

Q: can the adjustable rod be cut down to 34" and can the curtains be cut from 24" down to 18" without ruining the installation of the screen

I hope we’re talking about the same version of the product. My screen is 18” high, so I probably have a Different size. the answer to the first question is yes. My rod is 28” wide, although I don’t remember cutting it off. As to the width, I wouldn’t bother cutting the screens. They fold nicely in whatever space is available. I have no need to stretch the screens tight, and never notice that they are wider than the 28” opening.

Q: I have a fireplace screen and it seems to keep the heat in, do these curtains allow heat to pass through easily?

Heat should pass through this screen. Black absorbs heat, so heat transfer may not be optimal. I suggest opening the screen if you want maximum heat, keep kids, animals and flammable things at least 3 feet away from fireplace.
