Refresh the grounding of spiritual life
Paragraphs or brief extracts from Ramakrishna's teachings and letters have been gathered together under section headings that give coherent flow and development to his ideas. The first section is the ineffable and paradoxical nature of God, plus the nature of the selfish ego that seeks satisfaction in externals and the higher ego that seeks inner union with God. From there, sections continue on those who know God and teachers who help with this; the worldly-minded and their limitations; wealth, sex and the conquest of desire; knowledge and love; spiritual practice (the longest section); self-knowledge, with a miscellaneous section at the end. Each paragraph or extract requires some reflection from the reader. It would be advisable to read a page or two then pause for thought, not try digesting twenty pages in one sitting. The texts can be used for lectio divina, or as grounding in one's spirituality by reading a little more at breaks in the day.Ramakrishna was both generous and open-minded in outlook, seeking the common links between all major world religions. The main commonality is of course love. It is quite possible for readers who are not Hindu to get a lot out of this book. Generally terms relating to Hindu practice find their own explanation quite clearly in the context of the text. I return to Ramakrishna quite frequently to refresh my own grounding in spiritual life.

Good compilation of teachings in a small packet
Be advised - the contents of this book are a duplicate of another book (ISBN-10: 8178231468) with a different title "Sayings of Sri RamKrishna". Don't buy both books.I give it 4 stars instead of 5 for two reasons:(1) For the non-Hindu reader, this book will require a companion volume to clarify terms specific to Hindu philosophy(2) Many of the analogies are too naive or tend towards absolutes (never do this or that etc.)All-in-all though, for someone walking on the spiritual path this is a fine read.

Beautiful. I really feel like people of any faith (or lack of faith for that matter) could get something out of this. Recomended.
