I wouldn’t consider it hard. It’s a thicker material than the rest of the hat, but still conforms to the forehead shape.

Q: Does this hat sit just above the ears or does it come over the ears slightly?

It is a regular baseball type cap. Mine sits just above the ears.

Q: Are these hats available in children's sizea

Honestly it is a little small and tight for my head. My daughter is almost 5 and it actually fits her pretty well.
