Learning RSLogix 5000 Programming: Become Proficient in Building Plc Solutions in Integrated Architecture from the Ground Up Using Rslogix 5000

Really well written!
I'm about halfway through Learning RSLogix 5000 and I am loving it. There are a number of poor PLC programming books out there - books full of editorial issues, books written by authors who may be able to PLC program well but are for sure butchers of the English language, and books full of obsolete information and impractical sidebars. People who work in automation know that one thing they can never have enough of is time - which means it's imperative to just stop reading crummy books. And as well, it's imperative to promote a great book when you find one. Austin writes very well, at a level that's pragmatic, well-paced for his intended audience and provides illustrations that help provide clarity to complex topics. Very well done!

The book is a great read for those both new to Industrial Controllers as well as seasoned practitioners. The information is presented in a pragmatic fashion - giving real life reason why you might want/not want to do something - not just a theoretical book. I appreciated all of the side note information: there is a good deal of ancillary information in there. I also appreciated the quality and quantity of illustrations in the book - it keeps the read interesting and not dry. The author definitely has a great breadth and depth of knowledge which is apparent while the various topics of networking and Industrial Control Systems are discussed.

I wish it went more in detail into the different instructions available and examples to reinforce would be great.
Book is an introduction into PLCs in general. I wish it went more in detail into the different instructions available and examples to reinforce would be great.

Great foundational introduction to the Rockwell Automation
Thanks for writing this book! It is the first PLC Programming book I have read that provides a holistic view of a vendor's product line. I especially found the historical view of the various generations of PLCs and Communication protocols from Rockwell helpful. I now a frame of reference for the age and upgrade path for any legacy Rockwell control systems I encounter in the field.

Good book from the author.
This book help more to understand the Studio 5000. Also, proof that the program can't not handle to show the actuals input and output as Siemens, GeFanuc and others PLC programming devices. To avoid compromising by not been able to show both, the came with the "ALIAS" way of programing. Waste of time for the programmer and confusing but the troubleshooters.

Too Basic
This book is very similar to 'RSLOGIX 5000 Understanding Controllogix Basics'. There are numerous sections that are identical, even though they have different authors. The Title of this book is 'Programming' and out of the 200 pages, 22 are devoted to Ladder Logic. It did not have what I was looking for, how to read and write to analog IO.
