A little loud, but performing well and looks awesome
I got this drive for storing and editing photos, as well as storing video files. Its working great and is so much faster than my old 5200rpm drive. This apparently houses an data center level HDD, so it should hopefully be more durable than the desktop level HDDs that come in cheaper external drives. It looks really cool with the rugged enclosure design and features two USB sockets that would be very handy to have on the desk. Unfortunately its a little too loud for me to have on my desk. There is a fan inside to provide active cooling, which is great to have for durability of the drive, but it is quite loud. As well as the fan, the drive itself is fairly noisy being 7200rpm. I have put the drive inside a cupboard, with a mini USB room fan plugged into the USB socket on the enclosure. Very handy to have them! The drive runs a little hot at around 56c according to crystal disc info. I searched it and apparently its normal for this type of drive to run a little hot, so I don't think its an issue with the enclosure or the drive.Setup was easy and just a case of plugging in the USB and power cable and turning it on. Windows immediately detected the drive and it was ready to go.Overall I am very pleased with this external HDD and would definitely recommend if you're looking for a fast external drive.

A very good cost effective large capacity external mechanical hard drive good for most gamers.
It has a decent capacity of about 7.5Tb and not the full 8Tb advertised(as a lot of space is used up for the file system on mechanical hard drives in general so you very rarely get the full capacity advertised) for the price and works very well with the PS4 PRO and on the whole has decent access speeds tho on occasion it does seem to be a bit slow. This is probably to do with the 10 second spin up time which does make loading a little slow at times during gaming. Tho game loading is fairly quick when you load up a game from the Home Screen. The drive does run quite warm during busy times when gaming so I would recommend that the drive is placed in a well ventilated place so as to allow heat to naturally dissipate and definitely ensure that the fan at the back of the drive has a clear path to expel the build up of heat. The drive is extremely easy to set up and is formatted for the PS4 very quickly. It is definitely worth the money tho it will run considerably slower than a solid state hard Drives as will all mechanical drives so there is a trade off between storage space and read, write, access times. Also if you choose a solid state hard drive you are currently limited to 2Tb and will very likely pay £200 or more and the faster the drive the more expensive they are generally. Also to really get the benefit of the speed of solid state hard drives you would need to replace the PS4 internal drive with a solid state hard Drive and then you have the problem of downloading the PS4 operating system on to the drive prior to or during replacement which can be very problematic. Hence why mechanical External hard Drives are very popular with the PS4 as generally the storage space of the internal hard drive is much smaller than required for most gamers, so external hard Drives are a almost a must have item as it allows you to have comprehensive access to many years of games overtime and not be forced into deleting and installing games which is very time consuming. Also the hard drives is not fully silent and you can hear it running faintly in the background especially during times when you are not gaming which is probably the downside of having a hard drive which spins faster than standard mechanical hard drives tho I think it is a trade off which is worth it in my opinion.

the little box that stores alot
in this day and age you can never have enough storage for games ,media, photos etc and this external hard drive is perfect for that job it has upto 8tb of space, the only issue i have had with product is it is slightly slower download speed compared to its more expensive counter part but its hardly noticeable and for the price its an amazing piece of tech would highly recommend.

Best game drive there is until SSD drops in price.
OK, a great product but with drawbacks.Good: 12TB of fast storage supplied by award winning WD Black drive. It clocked up to 250Mbs on the transfer replacing the USB powered Samsung I had on my XBOX One X which maxed out at 125Mbs.Good: Reduced to sub £200 and 3 months Xbox Ultimate Game pass included price this at little over £15 per TB and enough storage for the next gen of gaming.Good and bad: Power supply rather than USB Powered. Includes 2x 7.5W USB Charging ports but means this is always on. Good and bad right!?Good and bad: This thing is always on unless you unplug it. If you don't have your Xbox on FULL OFF this drive will grind away often while your console is on standby. The power light is white, not too bright and slowly pulses away. This always on drive state make response times amazing but there is no power management it seems.Good and bad: Fan not loud (some people complain they don't hear it) but drive grinds/reads can be heard when its quiet. Louder than my other drives.Best external gaming drive there is unless you step up to SSD at 5x the price 1/5th capacity.

A fantastic fast drive, but a little noisy
I was advised to buy this drive by a techy friend to replace my art storage drives which were beginning to fail. As a designer who works primarily digitally I generally have very large file size work, and masses of it, so having a reliable drive is very important. This drive was recommenced as a combination of drive size, brand name and price - even though it appears to be primarily marketed as a gaming drive,I am a Mac user, and so far this drive has worked exceptionally well. It is fast to save to, and open from, and so far has had no issues disconnecting from my Mac both when it is awake or when backing up to from sleep. My only negative about this drive is the relatively loud hum which I imagine is down to the cooling fan. It's quite noticeable when working, and could even be felt as a light vibration on my desk. However, after a few days I am getting used to the noise. Don't get me wrong, this is not a loud or heavy vibration, but it's present enough for me to find it a little distracting when working.
