We have tried a bunch of driveway alarms but have been unhappy with every one for a variety of reasons. I am glad I didn't give up though because I think I finally found one that works! When I set it up a few days ago I had a question and called customer service, not really expecting an answer. But someone was there and easily answered my question and told me to call back anytime if I needed more help. It has been in our driveway now for a few days and works perfectly. I will give it a few months to see if keeps working but am very optimistic.

Why did you pick this product vs others?:I have one already, but it got knocked over ant the sound wouldn't set correctly anymore,so I replaced it.

I don’t usually write reviews but this is the one to buy. I have tried many others…this is the only one that actually has the range claimed.

Useful device and a good addition other Dakota Alert receivers (DCR-4000 RE-4Kplus) because it's portable and also keeps a timestamped log of alerts organized by Zone. LCD is backlight. The 4 buttons (Power, Mode, Up, Down) have tactile feedback and are easy to push and difficult to accidently activate.Range and orientation sensitivity should be similar other Dakota Alert units because it uses the same helical antenna (it would be nice if they indicated antenna/device orientation for best or worst Tx/Rx performance).Has a optional haptic/vibration alert (like cell phone) and volume adjust for the speaker.Criticism are:1. The keys lockout after 12 seconds and require pushing the Up and Down arrow together to reactivate. The display shows a key icon to indicate "lockout". Lockout isn't needed and should be user configurable setting.2. The unit shows TTL (total) and the zone number. You must push the Power button to erase the Zone/TTL line before the keys are responsive. Unclear why this is needed, but it's annoying.3. To see the traffic log, you must push Up+Down (to unlock), then push the Power (to erase Zone/TTL), then push Mode+Down, then begin scrolling through zones. (Keep the manual handy).4. Still uses USB-Micro charging port (although the supply a USB-A to USB-Micro cable).I'd buy it again.

Great range! We have gone through 6 different driveway alarms trying to cover an eighteen hundred foot driveway and this was far and away the only one that met all of the requirements. We are ecstatic to have it

I purchased and installed this item and an additional sensor about a month ago. The attached picture shows that the unit is installed within 50' of the receiver, which is located in a window with a clear line of sight to the unit at a slight angle to catch nearly any object height passing through. The sensitivity is set to 'Medium', and it is approximately 6' from the driveway. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not pick up a vehicle. Some vehicles it will NEVER pick up. The second unit is located about 100 yards from the receiver, and performs slightly better, but exhibits the same random function. I have tried putting fresh batteries in the sensors, but same result. Kind of an expensive item from what I thought was a reputable Manuf. to function in this way. For this application, you do not need something that only functions properly some of the time. There is not much in the way of troubleshooting advice in the instructions, so maybe there is something I am missing, but I have installed motion sensors professionally for decades, so I am pretty sure I am good on the install.I was going to add an under the drive probe and remote, but doubt I will as that is too much coin to spend for a random result. I have had the hard-wired Cartell version of this in the past, but lightning always takes these out eventually if you run the shielded cable any distance. I was hoping this would solve that problem.Further update: Part of the problem here is that the units are NOT weatherproof as stated. One of mine began going off constantly a short while after I bumped up the sensitivity to 'High'. Took it off the mount & noticed water droplets on it. When opened, it had a considerable amount of water inside. Mounted vertically on a tree trunk. See the 2nd Pic to ID the issue. While there is a gasket, the ridiculous screws that attach the 2 halves together do not seal the middle. You can see the gap with tightened screws in the photo. In addition, they are on the wrong side of the unit, so that every time you change the battery or make adjustments, the loose tiny screws fall out of the back of the case & have to be kept track of - outside in the leaves. Good luck not dropping at least one every time. This is all just dumb stuff that is usually attributable to cheap Chinese outsourcing. Inexcusable for something that is not a cheap alternative. Hard to believe that other users have not had these same issues.

Our driveway is 400 feet off a public road, requiring us to use 2 systems. Seems to be working as it should to alert us to visitors to our fields and to our home.
